Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the titled contact material superior to conventional materials in contact performance, particularly in resistance to fusion, by a method wherein an alloy prepared by adding Cd, at least one element selected from among Li, K and Na and at least one element selected from iron family elements into silver at predetermined ratios is internally oxidized.
CONSTITUTION: The alloy for producing the composite electrical contact material is prepared by adding 0.5W20wt% of Cd, 0.01W3wt% of at least one element selected from among Li, K and N and 0.01W2wt% of at least one element selected from the iron family elements (Fe, Co, Ni). Then, a metl of the alloy is sprayed to obtain particulate matter, which is internally oxidized in an oxygen atmosphere to produce a composite powder. The composite powder is successively subjected to compression, sintering, extrusion and drawing to form a wire. The wire is subjected to riveting to obtain the objective composite contact material. The contact material thus obtained has a superior resistance to fusion, a lower contact resistance and a higher stability as compared to Ag-Cd based composite electrical contact materials.
