Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an inexpensive electrical contact material for sealing with superior melt-sticking resistance equal to that of Ag-CdO by adding specified amounts of Cd, Sn and Zn oxides and Fe, Co or Cr to Cu.
CONSTITUTION: Powder of a Cu alloy prepared by adding 0.01W1w/o of one or more among Fe, Co and Cr to Cu is mixed with 2W26w/o in total of 0.5W25w/o each of powders of Cd, Sn and Zn oxides, and the mixture is compressed and sintered in an inert gaseous atmosphere. The sintered body is formed into a prescribed shape by repeating plastic working and heat treatment in said atmosphere. Said oxides are added to obtain the desired melt sticking resistance, yet less than the lower limit of one of the oxides or less than the lower limit of the oxides in total does not produce the effect, and more than the upper limit increases the contact resistance and provides instability. The addition of one or more among Fe, Co and Cr prevents the Cu grains from being coarsened by the generation of heat and enhances the mechanical strength, yet less than the lower limit of the element does not produce the effect, and more than the upper limit lowers the electric conductivity, deteriorates the workability, and causes extreme embrittlement.
