PURPOSE:To obtain stable image quality by keeping the average sizes of the magnetic toner contg. 15-50wt% magnetic powder at 5-30mu, and providing magnetic poles applying the magnetic field of average >=1350 gauss between a toner thickness regulating member and a toner carrying body. CONSTITUTION:A multipolar permanent magnet 9 is held fixed, and a nonmagnetic cylinder 8 which is a toner supporting body is rotated in the same direction on the plane proximate to an electrostatic image holding surface 1. As the cylinder 8 revolves, the one-component insulation-characteristic ferromagnetic toner 12 which is being fed from a toner vessel 14 is coated on the nonmagnetic cylinder surface.
