Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound inexpensively and industrially advantageously, by dehydrofluorinating an inexpensive and readily obtainable octafluoroisobutyl lower alkyl ether as a raw material, followed by reduction, conversion to a sulfuric ester, and treatment with a base.
CONSTITUTION: An octafluoroisobutyl lower alkyl ether shown by the formula I (R is lower alkyl) as a raw material is dehydrofluorinated with an M1OH (M1 is alkali metal group), etc., to give a heptafluoroisobutenyl lower alkyl ether shown by the formula II. This compound is reduced to give a hexafluoroisobutyl lower alkyl ether shown by the formula III, which is converted by sulfuric anhydride, etc. into a sulfuric (hexafluoroisobutyl) lower alkyl ester shown by the formula IV. This compound is treated with a base, to give hexafluoroisobutene shown by the formula V.
USE: A comonomer for heat-resistant copolymer obtained from it and vinylidene fluoride, and modifier for the copolymer.
