PURPOSE: A benzotrichloride is hydrolyzed and made to react with a 1-alkyl-3- methyl-5-hydroxypyrazole to produce the titled compound used as a herbicide or its intermediate readily from inexpensive raw materials in high yield.
CONSTITUTION: When a 1-alkyl-3-methyl-5-benzoyloxypyrazole is obtained from a benzotrichloride and a 1-alkyl-3-methyl-hydroxypyrazole, the hydrolysis of benzotrichloride of formula I (X1, X2 are halogen) is followed by the reaction of the product with a 1-alkyl-3-methyl-5-hydroxypyrazole of formula II (R is alkyl; Y is H, benzoyl that may be substituted with halogen atoms) to give the objective compound of formula III.
