Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the anticorrosion of the abrasive material of a brake pad or the like by a method wherein stainless fiber consisting of stainless steel having specified proportions of C, Si, Mn, P, S, Cr, Se, Pb, Mo, Ni respectively and a balance of Fe is utilized.
CONSTITUTION: Ferrite series or martensite series stainless steel is formed with a composition of C=0.01W0.40wt%, Si≤1.0wt%, Mn≤1.25wt%, P≤0.060wt%, S≤0.35wt%, Cr=11.50W20.0wt%, Se≤0.30wt%, Pb≤1.0wt%, Mo≤2.0wt%, Ni≤4.0wt% and the balance of Fe. This stainless steel is annealed at the temperature of 650W950°C or cooled by oil after heating it at the temperature of 900W 1,050°C, further, it is tempered if necessary, thereafter, a cold working having a working rate of 50% or less is applied. Next, it is cut so as to have a sectional area of 10mm2 or less and a length of 80mm or less by a cutting work to obtain the stainless fiber, then, the abrasive material is formed by molding the fiber together with a curing agent for molding and a filler.
