Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a tough stainless cast steel with improved resistances to wear, corrosion and impact load by specifying the conditions of hardening and tempering for a cast steel having specified contents of Mn, Cr, etc. after annealing.
CONSTITUTION: A steel consisting of, by wt., ≤0.1% C, ≤1.5% Si, 7.0W6.0% Mn, 11.0W15.0% Cr and the balance essentially Fe is cast, and this cast steel is annealed and hardened from 980W1,080°C to thoroughly decompose and uniformize a segregated part and carbide as well as to relieve casting residual stress, whereby the steel is uniformly austenitized, and the austenite is converted into uniform martensite in the cooling process. The steel is then subjected to secondary hardening from 700W850°C to form fine uniform martensite, and tempering is carried out from 550W650°C to provide impact load resistance and ductility to the steel. The resulting steel has superior suitability for use as a material for a hydraulic machine.
