Abstract

PURPOSE: To considerably prolong the effective work life of a chelate resin for mercury by treating the waste water with finely ground converter slag to lower the mercury concentration in the waste water then adsorptively removing mercury by said resin.
CONSTITUTION: The mercury-contg. waste water is admitted into a mercury absorptive tank 1 and finely ground converter slag powder is added thereto. After these are mixed for a suitable time, the waste water is led out as a waste slurry from the tank 1. Next, this slurry is put in a classifier 2 to be fractionated and the liquid content thereof is led into a pH control tank 3. The other solid content is treated as used converter slag for setting of cement and other treatment. Moreover, hydrochloric acid or water-soluble Ca salt is added to the foregoing liquid component to control the same to about 4W6pH, after which it is supplied to a chelate resin tower 4 for mercury, where mercury is adsorptively removed by the chelate resin. As a result, even the waste water containing mercury of a relatively high concentration of e.g. ≥0.5ppm may be subjected to stable removal treatment over a long period of time at a low cost.
