Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove effectively residual N-S compounds, dithionic acid, etc., by subjecting N-S compounds present in waste water to a notrous acid treatment, a biological nitrifying denitrification treatment, and an ion-exchange treatment.
CONSTITUTION: The waste water discharged from the desulfurization, the denitrification, or the simultaneous desulfurization and denitrification treatment of flue gas is regulated to 40W60°C and pH 2.0 or less, and than NaNO2 and Ca(NO2)2 are added to the regulated waste water in an amount 1.5W2.0 times as much as N-S compounds present in the waste water to allow them to react for 1W2 hours in order to decompose the N-S compounds into NH4 +, NO2 -, NO3 -, etc., which are, in turn, reduced to N2 by biological nitrification and denitrification in a reductive process, after which the waste water is subjected to a coagulating sedimentation process and a filtration process. Then, residual N-S compounds and COD components arising from N-S compounds and dithionic acid are removed by a weakly basic anionic exchange resin and/or a strongly basic anionic exchange resin, and furthermore, residual COD is removed by active carbon.
