Abstract

PURPOSE:To optionally control the spattering direction of an ink drop discharged from a nozzle by controlling a direction to which the ink inside a pressure chamber is pressurized. CONSTITUTION:A drive element 101 made of a cylindrical piezoelectric material is fixed encompassing a nozzle 102 and external electrodes 104-1, 104-2 opposed to an internal electrode 103 are split in halves along an ink discharge-shaft direction. A drive signal is independently input from an input terminal 105 for the internal electrode 103 and input terminals 106-1, 106-2 provided on the external terminals 104-1. 104-2, so that an independent electric field is generated on a semicylindrical piezoelectric material parts 107-1, 107-2 under each external electrode. Thus an asymmetrical pressure distribution is generated inside a plane which is vertical with a head center shaft OP for a pressure chamber 108, bringing about asymmetry in an ink flow velocity in the neighborhood of an orifice 109. Consequently, it is possible to provide an angle with the afore mentioned central shaft OP in the spattering direction of the drop inside the afore-mentioned plane.
