Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the soldability, mechanical strength and corrosion resistance of a lead material and lower its coefft. of thermal expansion by using an Fe-Cr-Ni alloy having an outside layer of Sn or Sn alloy as a material for leads of semiconductors.
CONSTITUTION: An Fe-Cr-Ni-base alloy contg. 10W20wt% Cr, 1W15wt% Ni, and <0.5wt% C is used as a sealing metallic material for ceramics or resins for semiconductors, and the surface thereof is plated with 0.02W5μm Ni underlayer, after which an Sn plating layer of 0.05W20μm thickness or a plating layer of an alloy of Sn and Pb, Bi, Cd, Sb, In, Al, Zn, etc. is formed thereon. This yields the material for leads having high strength, corrosion resistance and soldability and a low coefft. of thermal expansion.
