Abstract
PURPOSE:To make high-temperature characteristics and abrasion resistance superior by providing a coating layer of an Ni-Fe alloy containing the specific percent of Fe on the surface of a mold comprising copper or copper alloy. CONSTITUTION:In a process for production of a mold for continuous casting by electrodepositing an Ni coating layer on the surface of the copper or copper alloy constituting the mold for constinuous casting by the electrolyte comprising essentially nickel sulfamate, the electrolyte contains no organic sulfur compound other than sulfamate and contains ferrous ions and hydroxycarboxylic acid, and 1-20% Fe is contained in the Ni coating layer. Hence, the mold having the coating layer of superior hardness, abrasion resistance, galling resistance and thermal impact resistance is provided.
