Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide an engine capable of extracting maximum effective work will minimum fuel supply by establishing specific relationship between the closing timing of the suction valve and the compression ratio and setting the explosion volume at about 2 times of the fuel suction volume in the cylinder.
CONSTITUTION: A gasoline engine consists of a cylinder 6 containing a piston 10 freely reciprocatable therein and being equipped with a ignition plug 7, suction valve 7 and exhaust valve 9 on its head. In such engine the suction stroke in performed as in the conventional engine but the suction valve 8 is continuously held open at the first half of the compression stroke and is closed when the piston 10 proceeds with about 1/2 of its stroke also, the compression ratio is determined by the inner volume of the cylinder when the suction valve 8 closes and the clearance between the cylinder head and the piston head at the upper dead point. The explosion volume is set at about 2 times of the fuel suction volume in the cylinder 6.
