PURPOSE:To enable a scan at constant timing all the time while converting the scanning speed of the photoscanning speed converting mechanism of a copying machine by turning on and off clutches selectively. CONSTITUTION:Mirror 26 of photoscanner 1 slides on scanning rails 2 with wire 5 fixed to pulley 4. This pulley 4 is rotated by driving shaft 3 equipped with return spring 6. Driving shaft 3 has gear 22 at its end and the gear engages with the 2nd speed stage gear 21 via the 1st speed stage gear 19 and intermediate gear 23. Driving gear 7 linking to a driving source drives the 1st and 2nd main shafts 14 and 16 via input gear 10, input clutch 9, input shaft 8, pulley 11, the 1st and 2nd wires 12 and 13, and the 1st and 2nd speed stage pulleys 15 and 17 to change the speed according to the selection of the 1st and 2nd speed stage clutches.
