Abstract
The automatic multi-speed gear box is driven through a belt from a pulley on the engine crankshaft. The driven pulley houses a clutch which transmits the drive through jaws and levers to the output shaft. The layshaft has a free wheel and a pinion which is driven by the starter pinion. The driven pulley also houses a centrifugal clutch and this combination of a jaw clutch and a centrifugal clutch provides a smoother change of speed than existing types of automatic transmissions.
