Abstract

PURPOSE: To measure flow rates accurately and stably, by minimizing the influence of an electrochemical potential occurring around a measuring electrode in an electromagnetic flow meter.
CONSTITUTION: A switch 16 is provided on an electrode 10 set on a pipe 2, and an amplifier 12, an operator 14 and a synchronizong signal generator 20 are further provided. When the switch 16 is colsed, an electrochemical potential which is grounded with a grounding conductor 18 and which occurs around the electrode 10 is suppressed to substantially zero. When the switch 16 is opened, an electric potential occurs but it can be suppressed to an extremely low noise. In the meantime, a signal voltage from an excitation control circuit 8 is input into the amplifier 12. This signal voltage includes such a noise as mentioned above having the opposite polarity. This signal voltage is input into the operator 14 to obtain a required signal voltage only. Thus, a flow rate can be measured accurately while suppressing to a minimal level the influence of an electrochemical potential occurring around the electrode.
