Abstract

826,195. Electric tests. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO. Ltd. May 22, 1958 [May 30, 1957], No. 17218/57. Class 37. Apparatus for detecting or measuring the content of fine particles in a non-conductive fluid F comprises a conductive cylinder 1 through which the fluid flows, a coaxial electrode 2, and a high voltage source S connected between them to produce a corona discharge. Particles in the fluid absorb charges which are proportional to their surface areas and which correspondingly modify the current flowing in the external circuit, which is indicated on a meter 3. A low voltage source 4 and a variable resistor 5 are shunted across the meter to enable a zero reading to be obtained in the absence of particles.
