Abstract
PURPOSE: To recover heavy metals contained in waste such as plating sludge and simply dispose the waste as non-pollution waste by adding a reducing agent to the waste followed by microwave melting.
CONSTITUTION: To industrial waste 4 contg. heavy metals, e.g. plating sludge is added a solid reducing agent such as graphite, SiC, Si or Al in an adequate amt. to the metals contained. This mixt. is put into hopper 5 and charged into resonance type melting furnace 3 with screw feeder 10. Microwave power is simultaneously supplied from microwave supply inlet 1, and matching mechanism is adjusted to allow furnace 3 also serving as a resonant cavity resonate. By a dielectric loss caused at this time waste 4 is heat melted to reduce heavy metal oxides to metals 7. SiO2, Al2O3 or the like formed from the reducing agent is taken out as glassy melt 10 from the heavy metals together with nonmetal such as SiO2 in sludge in the form of non-pollution waste.
