Abstract

PURPOSE: To simplify the system with less number of hardware, by dividing the print area into a plurality of zones and corresponding the print pin to each zone, in the serial printer having the print head in which a plurality of pins are located in zigzag shape.
CONSTITUTION: To the print head, ODD pin train of 1, 3...17 and EVEN pin train 2, 4...18 are located in zigzag shape and the print area is divided into three zones. In case of forward print, the first zone is printed only with ODD pins, the second zone is printed ODD and EVEN pins and the third zone is printed with EVEN pins only. The head address of the dot data stored in the one line image buffer 2 of the memory 1 is set to the ODD address register 7 and the EVEN address register 8, and it is set to the ODD pin data buffer 10 and EVEN pin data buffer 11 corresponding to each zone, with the DMA control circuit 4 and the zone control circuit 5 to make print.
