Abstract

PURPOSE: To attain the automatic inspection method without recourse to viewing and to decide the accuracy of actuation of the liquid crystal indicator with less brightness by applying and scanning a light beam to the indicator and by discriminating the presence of reflected rays with a fixed luminous intensity or more.
CONSTITUTION: When each segment of the indicator 4 is scanned by the beam 2 sent from the light source 1, the beam is reflected with the intensity of a reference level or more only when it crosses a segment that is in the state of display, the reflected rays that passed through the half mirror 6 are photoelectrically converted by the sensor 7, and are compared with a reference level by the decision circuit 9. Since reflected rays from a segment being in the state of other display or from a bad segment with less brightness have the intensity less than a reference level, an inspection without viewing is possible, the inspection process can be automatized to decide the accuracy of actuation of the liquid crystal indicator.
