Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the title compound soluble in water, stable to acids and salts, and capable of forming a stable hydrophilic complex with polyvalent metal salts and cationic organic compounds, by reacting an alkali cellulose with an alkylene oxide and γ-butyrolactone.
CONSTITUTION: The objective anionic cellulose derivative is prepared by reacting (A) an alkali cellulose (pref. an alkali cellulose I), (B) an alkylene oxide (e.g. ethylene oxide) and (C) a compound of formula (e.g. γ-butyrolactone). The average molar number of the (B) component added to the derivative is ≥0.8, and the substitution degree of the component (C) is ≥0.3.
USE: Electro-conductive polymer, anti-static agent, electro-conductive agent for electrostatic reproduction paper, hair-conditioning shampoo, cosmetics, water paint, coated paper, etc.
