Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve retentivity without lowering residual magnetic flux density, by replacing with manganese a part of copper in a magnet alloy consisting of rare- earth elements and cobalt added with copper.
CONSTITUTION: An ingot or sintered powder of the composition expressed by the general formula R[CO1-u-v(Cu+Mn)uFev]z, where R represents one or more rare-earth elements, such as Sm, Ce, Y, is melted at 1100W1250°C and further it is subjected to aging at 500W900°C, and thereby a permanent magnet is formed. Here, u, v, and z are such that 0.02<u≤0.25, 0.02≤v≤0.45, 7<z<8.8. By replacing a part of Cu with Mn in this way, it is possible to improve retentivity without lowering residual magnetic flux density. Further, by adding one or more of Hf, Zr, Ti, V, Nb, Ta, Si, Mg, Zn, Mo, Cr, Al, it is possible to make it easy to operate heat treatment for exhibiting retentivity.
