Abstract
PURPOSE:To raise operating voltage and discharge capacity by using cupric oxide heat-treated in a specific temperature range as a positive electrode active material. CONSTITUTION:A nonaqueous electrolyte cell is formed by using a lithium rolled plate obtaned by punching, etc., as a negative electrode plate and a solution of 1mol lithium perchlorate in a mixed solvent consisting of equivolumes of propylene carbonate and 1,2-dimethoxyethane, for example, as an electrolyte. As a positive electrode active material for such a cell, cupric oxide heat treated in a temperature range of 300-1,050 deg.C is used. The preferred atmosphere for the heat treatment is oxidative or vacuum and particularly the heat treatment in the air is preferred. Thus, because crystal is made finer and its surface area is made larger by the heat treatment, the operating voltage and discharge capacity of the cell can be raised.
