Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the swelling of a battery due to gas generation and improve the shelf-life by using the manganese dioxide positive active material which contains a specific oxide and is heat-treated for a nonaqueous battery. CONSTITUTION:A disk positive electrode 5 which uses a positive compound comprising a positive active material of manganese dioxide, conductive material, and fluororesin binder, a separator 7, and retaining material 8 are contained in a case 1. A lithium negative electrode 4 is pressed on the inside grid 3 of a sealing plate 2, the case 1 is sealed with it spaced with a gasket, and a nonaqueous battery is formed. The manganese dioxide for the positive active material is prepared by mixing an oxide of an element from the group III in the periodic table selected from yttrium oxide (Y2O3) and lanthanum oxide (La2O3) in preheat treated manganese dioxide, and then heat-treating. 1-3mol% of Y2O3 to the quantity of manganese dioxide or 0.5-3mol% of La2O3 is added preferably, and the mixture is heat treated at 100-450 deg.C preferably.
