A negative agent 6 made of zinc powder or the like is packed into a negative terminal-plate 7, and it is placed on the assembled separator. At the same time, a gasket 8 with an L-shaped cross section is interposed between the can 2 and the plate 7 to constitute a hermetically closed battery. The crystal size of the silver oxide used for the positive active material determined by X-ray diffraction is 800Angstrom , and preferably is over 1,000Angstrom per 200 grains.
