Abstract

PURPOSE: To readily form an electrochromic material layer of even thickness and superior adhesiveness on substrates by coating a transition metal compound solution on the electrode substrates of roughened surfaces then drying the same.
CONSTITUTION: Slightly roughened surfaces of the extent of not impairing even displaying are formed through mechanical roughening, chemical etching, etc. on substrate surfaces and a solution of a transition metal composition (e.g., butanol solution of tungsten chloride) is coated thereon and is dried at near room temperature (or may be further subjected to drying and baking at a high temperature), whereby the electrochromic display material layer is formed.
