Abstract

PURPOSE: To treat the industrial waste solutions containing cyan heavy metal complex compounds such as potassium ferricyanide and potassium ferrocyanide and other free cyans and the blood inspection waste solutions containing cyanmethemoglobin discharged from clinical inspection rooms such as of hospitals and medical centers at a high degree.
CONSTITUTION: Mineral acids such as sulfuric acids or hydrochloric acids are added to the cyan-containing waste solution containing organic macromolecular cyan compounds such as cyanmethemoglobin to make its pH 1W3, to which is then added the flocculant composed of strong electrolyte macromolecular anion to allow the organic cyan compounds to flocculate and precipitate and perform separation of the organic cyan compounds. Thence, mineral acids such as sulfuric acids and hydrochloric acids are added thereto to make it strongly acidic at pH 0.8 or less. Further chlorine-contained oxidizing agent such as sodium hypochlorite and bleaching powder is added to decompose nearly 100% the inorganic cyan compounds by the free chlorines produced through ordinary temperature reaction. Here, in decomposing and removing the cyans, the gas produced is passed in the alkali trap containing an aqueous alkaline solution, whereby the HCN gas is trapped.
