Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform the treatment of waste water permitting the lowerikg of COD and concurrently the recovery of silver ion in a short time and with simple operation by oxidizing and decomposing waste water containing oxidzable sutbstances, e.g., waste water from photograph industry, etc., with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of copper and iron ions.
CONSTITUTION: Waste water containing silver ion and oxidizable substances, such as developing and fixing solutions used, etc., is introduced into the reaction tank 1 and a fixed amount of copper powder or copper ion 12 and the acid 9 are added to the waste water to adjust its pH to 2 to 6. Then, iron powder or the ferrous salt 12 is added to the waste water with sufficient stirring and then a fixed amount of the hydrogen peroxide 10 is added to the waste water either at a time or continuously to cause oxidative reaction to take place.
