Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce the amt. of slag to be formed and make the properties effectively usable, in desiliconization of hot iron with an oxygen soure, by adding alkali (earth) metal cpds. at the same time and then subjecting the Si free hot iron to dephosphorization and decarburization.
CONSTITUTION: In the first process, gaseous oxygen or a solid oxygen source such as mill scale or sintered ore is supplied to desiliconize hot iron. At this time, by adding one or more cpds. selected from alkali metal and alkaline earth metal oxides, carbonates and fluorides, boron oxide and titanium oxide, removability of slag formed is ensured and the slag is made usable as a SiO2 source contg. no harmful components such as P and S in place of silica. In the second process, the Si free hot iron as main raw material is subjected to dephosphorization and decarburization in an oxygen steel making furnace.
