Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce the operatonal cost of blast furnace as well as reduce the amount of slag formed wholly by using slag formed in the manufacture of Fe-Mn and Si-Mn instead of Mn ore in the operation of blast furnace.
CONSTITUTION: In the manufacture of pig iron containing 0.5 to 0.6% Mn, e.g., steel-making pig iron, normal steel casting pig iron, malleable iron-making pig iron, etc., slag formed in the manufacture of Fe-Mn and Si-Mn is used instead of Mn ore. The slag used in this case contains Mn>10% and Al2O3<15%. In case where the proportion of sintered ore in raw material is less in the manufacture of pig iron for steel making, Fe-Mn slag is used instead of a slag-forming agent, e.g., qualtz, lime, etc., and also in the manufacture of pig iron for steel casting, Si-Mn slag containing much SiO2 and less CaO is used because the Si content of pig iron is increased. Thus, Mn in slag can be recovered and also the slag is effectively utilized as a slag-forming agent, reducing the amount of slag to be discarded wholly.
