Abstract
PURPOSE: To make a high purity anhydrous Na2S2O4 with high efficiency by performing an electrolysis in which a concentrated sodium chloride solution and SO2 are introduced into each of the anodic and cathodic rooms, fach being isolated by a cationic exchange membrane, while circulating the cathodic liquor kept in a predetermined pH range, using Ni cathode.
CONSTITUTION: Electrolysis is performed by introducing a concentrated sodium chloride solution into the anodic room of an electrolytic bath, in which the anodic and cathodic rooms are separated by a cationic exchange membrane (for example, refluorosulfonic acid cationic exchange membrance), introducing SO2 gas into the cathodic room filled with a NaHSO3 aqueous solution. In this case, Ni is used as the cathode, and the electrolysis is made while circulating the cathodic liquor kepy at pH 5.5 to 6.5 Afterwards, the electrolysis is stopped at a stage that the cathodic liquor reaches a concentration (approx. 10%) enough to crystallize Na2S2O4.2H2O as electrolysis proceeds, and then cathodic liquor is drawn out. And, salting-out agent, e.g., alcohos, etc. is added to the cathodic liquor to crystallize Na2S2O4. 2H2O for recovery. In this method, the conversion rate of SO2 into Na2S2O4. 2H2- Okεis 85 to 95%, and the purity of the Na2S2O4.2H2O is approx. 90 to 95%.
