Abstract

PURPOSE:To make the maintenance of high electric current efficiency for a long period possible, by making the concentration of sulfuric acid ion in the aqueous solution of alkali chloride which is supplied to the anode room, at 10g/l or less at the electrolysis in the electrolytic bath of cation exchange membrane process. CONSTITUTION:On occasion of electrolyzing the aqueous solution of alkali chloride by using electrolytic bath which is divided in the anode and cathode room by cation exchange membrane composed of fluorine group resin membrane having carboxylic radical (or a part or whole ion exchange radical is sulfonic acid radical) as ion exchange radical, concentration of Ca and Mg, is made at 80ppb or less when salt water supplying for the anode room, is NaCl aqueous solution and the concentration of Ca and Mg, is made at 50ppb or less when the salt water KCl an aqueous solution and also, the concentration of sulfuric acid ion in the salt water is limited to 10g/l or less. As a result of it, a high current efficiency of alkali generation can be maintained for a long period.
