Abstract
1297475 Two-part couplings SIEMENS AG 19 April 1971 [27 Feb 1970] 22193/71 Heading H2E A plug and socket connector, the socket of which is adapted to be connected to a printed circuit board and in which pairs of socket contacts are normally electrically engaging and caused to disengage when the plug is inserted, comprises a two-part socket housing 8 (Fig. 4) of insulating material accommodating pairs of contacts 12 of metal spring strips which conneet at kinked portions 16 and are provided with pins 13 for connection to a printed circuit board, and a plug body 31 (Fig. 3) of insulating material provided with pairs of plug contacts 35 accommodated in grooves 34 and adapted to be inserted into the socket housing to disengage paired socket contacts and engage individual socket and plug contacts. The socket housing is preferably composed of two indentical parts provided with slots to accommodate tabs which hold the housing together. The tabs are provided with lugs for introduction into holes in a printed circuit board to which they are soldered along with the socket contact pins. The plug body is provided with a housing 42 having a projection 45 receiving a cable 43. A sleeve 46 is shrunk on to a cable 43 and a groove 44 to provide strain relief. A socket housing may be adapted to mate with several plugs. Means are also described to prevent incorrect mating of plug and. socket.
