Abstract

1400605 Two part couplings BURNDY CORP 30 June 1972 [12 July 1971] 30707/72 Heading H2E An electrical connector comprises an insulating body 1 with a first contact element 3 comprising crosspiece 5, limbs 4, the free ends 6 of which are enlarged to form contacts to engage, the conductors of a printed circuit board, the connector further comprising supplementary removable contact elements 7 having portions 10, 8, 9 cf. portions 5, 4, 6 in element 3, both elements disposed within cavities 2, 11 respectively in insulating body 1. Contact element limbs 8 are bent inwards at 12 towards the plane of element 3 such that enlarged contact making portions 9 are in the same plane as element 3. When the connector is used with a printed circuit, those contact elements 3 which are required to make contact with the P.C. Board before the remaining ones do so, are supplemented by a contact element 7, which is slid into socket portion 11 until it bottoms therein, making electrical contact with contact element 3 by means of pips 14 on the crosspiece 10. In another embodiment, indirect electrical connection between contact elements 3 and 7 may be made by means of conductors disposed within the sockets.
