Abstract
PURPOSE: To manufacture cation exchange membrane having excellent OH- permeation inhibiting property by the procedure in which a polyamine is reacted to the one side of a fluoro(F)-polymer membrane with sulfonylhalide groups followed by a high temperature treatment and a hydrolysis, and then the membrane thus obtained is impregnated with a diene derivative to make a partial polymerization followed by dipping in an organic solvent and a heat treatment.
CONSTITUTION: A di- or polyamine is reacted to the one side of a perfluorocarbon polymer membrane with sulfonyl groups on its side chains, then treated at a high temperature between 170°C and the deterioration temperature of the polymer membrane, and lastly hydrolyzed, as needed, to obtain cation exchange membrane. Then, the membrane is impregnated with a diene derivative of the formula 1 to make a partial polymerization and then dipped in an organic solvent such as glycerine, etc., of a boiling point of more than 120°C at 760 mm Hg with a miscibility with water. Then, the membrane thus treated is put between flat plates, treated at 80 to 180°, and then dipped in a NaOH aqueous solution. In the formula, R is H, a halogen atom, OH group, or fulfonic acid group, n is 0 or 1 to 18, and R' is an alkylene group, an allylene group, or a cycloalkylene group.
