1534097 Electrical connectors BUNKER RAMO CORP 30 Nov 1976 [8 Dec 1975] 49920/76 Heading H2E A multiple-spring socket comprises an insulating housing 1 containing contact chambers 5 each of which includes a detent shoulder 10, a cover 3 including an opening 7 for alignment with each chamber 5 and a release opening 6 for alignment with a respective detent shoulder 10, the openings 6, 7 being separated by a web, and a corresponding number of contact springs 11 each including a detent lug 12 for engaging a detent shoulder 10, wherein openings 7 allow the insertion of contact blades into the chambers 5 and release openings 6 permit the insertion of a tool to disengage a lug 12 from a shoulder 10. As described, each chamber 5 includes two diametrically opposed shoulders 10, the cover 3, which may be glued, ultrasonically welded or screwed to the housing 2, having two correspondingly positioned release openings 6. Each contact spring 11 may include a shoulder 15 and the corresponding chamber 5, a stop 17 to limit movement of the contact spring 11 towards the cover 3 upon withdrawal of contact blades from the chambers 5. The width of each detent shoulder 10 is equal to approximately half the chamber width, the width of each lug 12 being no greater than the shoulder width. Examples of the various dimensions are given. The housing 1 may be provided with a flange (4) (Fig. 1, not shown) to allow the socket to be bolted to a printed circuit board.
