Abstract
927,484. Two-part couplings. AMP Inc. Oct. 12, 1960 [Oct. 26, 1959], No. 32511/61. Divided out of 927,481. Class 38 (1). In a modular circuit system according to Specification 927,481 wherein self-contained units 2 carrying various components can be plugged into a framework consisting of parallel, vertical insulating plates 6 secured to a base plate 4 and divided into cells by separator plates 64, the side walls of each unit 2 are formed with grooves 22 containing channel-shaped, sheet metal contacts 24 retained therein by lugs 30 at one end bent over the wall of the unit and lateral lugs (not shown) at the other end which engage notches 28 in the side walls of the channels. In the operative position of the unit, the contacts 24 engage blade contacts 38 fixed to the plates 6 by bending over integral lugs 40 and having further lugs 56, 62 which pass through the plates 6 and 4 and are soldered at 60 to printed conductors such as 10 carried thereby. The blades 38, as shown, are embraced by channel-shaped members 46 attached thereto at 48 and having outwardly bowed portions 50 which resiliently engage the contacts 24. Alternatively the latter contacts may be provided with inwardly bowed portions 54, Fig. 12, formed in the side walls of the channels after severing them from the bases at spaced points. These contacts engage simple blades from which the members 46 have been omitted. Correct insertion of the units 2 is ensured by ribs 78 and recesses 76 thereon which engage grooves 74<SP>1</SP> and ribs 74 on the separator plates 64. Grooves 33 between the grooves 22 increase the leakage path between contacts 24. Specifications 866,528, 927,483 and 927,485 are also referred to.
