Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 発明の分野 本発明は、吸収剤として親水性繊維材料および実質上水
不溶性のヒドロゲルのばらばらの（discrete）粒子の両
方を使用する吸収物品に関する。この種の吸収物品は、
使い捨ておむつ、成人失禁パッド、生理用ナプキンなど
を包含する。
発明の背景 水不溶性ヒドロゲルは、多量の流体、例えば水および体
***物を吸収でき、更に中圧下でこのような吸収流体を
保持できる重合体物質である。水不溶性ヒドロゲルのこ
れらの吸収特性は、このような物質を使い捨ておむつな
どの吸収物品に配合するのに特に有用にさせる。例え
ば、米国特許第3,669,103号明細書、米国特許第3,670,7
31号明細書は、両方とも吸収製品におけるヒドロゲル、
即ち「ヒドロコロイド」物質の使用を開示している。
使い捨て吸収物品における流体吸収性ヒドロゲル物質の
有効性は、ヒドロゲル物質が吸収物品に配合される形
態、位置および（または）方法に全く依存する。若干の
場合には、例えば、吸収物品におけるヒドロゲル流体吸
収の有効性は、ゲル閉塞と呼ばれる現象によって悪影響
されることがある。ゲル閉塞なる用語は、ヒドロゲル粒
子、フィルム、繊維、複合材料などが湿潤される時に生
ずる状況を記載する。湿潤時に、ヒドロゲル物質の表面
は、膨潤し、そして吸収材料の内部への液体透過を阻害
する。内部の湿潤は、その後非常に遅い拡散プロセスを
経て生ずる。実際問題として、このことは、物品による
流体の吸収が被吸収流体の***よりもかなり遅く、そし
て吸収物品中のヒドロゲル物質が十分に飽和されるより
もかなり前におむつまたは生理用ナプキンまたは他の吸
収物品の破損が生ずることがあることを意味する。
ゲル閉塞傾向を最小限にすることによって吸収物品内の
ヒドロゲル物質の有効性を改良しようとする多数の従来
技術の試みが、なされている。このように、例えば、殴
州特許出願第ED−Ａ−122,042号明細書は、ヒドロゲル
粒子が特定の密度に圧縮された親水性繊維の空気抄造ウ
ェブに分散されている吸収構造物を開示している。米国
特許第4,235,237号明細書は、網内に互いに離間された
水不溶性水膨潤性物質の粒子を有する開口吸収網を開示
している。米国特許第4,381,782号明細書は、ヒドロゲ
ル粒子と界面活性剤処理充填剤との混合物を含有する吸
収性繊維状構造物を開示している。英国特許第2,132,89
7A号明細書は、ゲル閉塞を防止しようとするパターンで
吸収性重合体で被覆される１以上の表面を有するパット
組立体を含有する使い捨て吸収物品を開示している。
吸収構造物内のヒドロゲル物質の有効性を改良しようと
する他の従来技術の試みは、ヒドロゲルを吸収構造物内
にばらばらの帯域、例えば層またはポケット中に位置決
めする特定の配置を包含している。例えば、前記第EP−
Ａ−122,042号明細書は、ヒドロゲル含有吸収構造物が
親水性繊維材料のみを含有する上層の下の下層として使
い捨て吸収製品中に位置決めされ得ることを指摘してい
る。米国特許第4,102,340号明細書は、繊維状材料の高
密化層の下に位置決めされるヒドロゲル含有バット（ba
tt）を有する吸収物品を開示している。米国特許第4,38
1,783号明細書は、ヒドロゲル粒子とばらばらの浸透性
粒子との混合物のポケットを含有する吸収層を包含する
吸収物品を開示している。米国特許第4,333,462号明細
書および米国特許第4,333,463号明細書は、両方とも着
用者の空隙帯において構造物の一端の近くに位置決めさ
れた超吸収性粒子の溜めを含有する吸収構造物を開示し
ている。殴州特許出願第EP−Ａ−108,637号明細書は、
超吸収剤含有吸収層および灯心作用（wicking）層を有
する薄い吸収製品を記載している。英国特許第1,406,61
5号明細書は、「最も有効であろう」バッドの部分のみ
に配合される尿ゲル化剤を有する吸収パッドを開示して
いる。
吸収構造物および製品内のヒドロゲル物質の有効性を改
良しようとする各種の従来技術の試みにも拘らず、ヒド
ロゲル物質が物品によりかつ物品内での体液の取得（ac
quisition）および分布を妨げずに***された体液を保
持する所期機能を遂行する際に特に有効でありかつ効率
良いヒドロゲル含有吸収物品を同定する継続的必要があ
る。ヒドロゲル物質は、一般に、容易に入手可能な親水
性繊維材料（例えば、セルロース繊維）よりも有意に硬
化である。従って、ヒドロゲル含有物品の吸収能力が改
良され得るか物品の所定の吸収能力が比較的高価なヒド
ロゲル物質の使用量を減少しながら繊維され得るかのい
ずれかの物品を提供することは、有利であろう。また、
流体貯蔵ヒドロゲル物質が***された体液を迅速に取得
する吸収物品の能力に悪影響を及ぼさない物品を提供す
ることは、有利であろう。それ故、本発明の主目的は、
ヒドロゲル吸収性物品の使用において特に有効でありか
つ効率良い吸収物品を提供することにある。
或るヒドロゲル含有使い捨て吸収物品によって与えるこ
とができる別の潜在的利点は、おむつかぶれの防止また
は減少に関する。おむつかぶれは、おむつによって通常
覆われる幼児の皮膚の部分の刺激および炎症の普通の形
態である。この状態は、おむつ皮膚炎、ナプキン皮膚
炎、ナプキンかぶれまたはおしめかぶれとも称される。
真の「おむつかぶれ」または「おむつ皮膚炎」は、通常
の最も単純な段階で、接触刺激皮膚炎である状態である
ことが一般に認められている。単純なおむつかぶれの刺
激は、皮膚と体***物との長期間の接触から生ずる。長
期間皮膚との接触状態で体***物を捕りかつ保持するお
むつは、このように、おむつかぶれを生じ、かつ（また
は）悪化させる。
おむつかぶれの主原因は、皮膚と屎尿混合物との長期間
の接触の結果として生ずる特定の一組の状態であること
が発見された。このような混合物に存在する糞便のタン
パク分解および脂質分解酵素の活性は、皮膚刺激を生ず
る際の主因子であると信じられる。糞便からの酵素と接
触している尿も、皮膚pHを上げるアンモニアを生ずるこ
とがある。例えば6.0以上の水準への皮膚pHのこの上昇
は、おむつかぶれを生ずる糞便のタンパク分解および脂
質分解酵素活性を増大する。
前記おむつかぶれのモデルは、有効なおむつかぶれ制御
が屎尿混合物がおむつをあてた皮膚と有意期間接触する
のを防止することによって達成され得ることを示唆す
る。従来技術の使い捨ておむつ構造物は、一般に、***
された尿および糞便の混合を排除しようとはしていな
い。従って、本発明の第二目的は、***された尿および
糞便を吸収物品内の別の（separate）位置で保持し、か
つ皮膚と屎尿混合物との接触によって生ずるおむつかぶ
れを防止しまたは減少するかも知れないおむつなどの吸
収物品を提供することにある。
発明の概要 本発明は、体液を特に有効かつ効率良い方式で吸収する
のに好適であり、かつおむつかぶれの発生も防止または
減少することができるおむつ、失禁パッドなどの吸収物
品を提供する。このような吸収物品は、細長い液体不透
過性裏張りシート、比較的疎水性の液体透過性トップシ
ートおよび裏張りシートとトップシートとの間に位置決
めされる層状吸収芯を具備する。
吸収芯は、好ましくは細長くかつ本質上親水性繊維材料
からなる流体取得／分布上層および本質上親水性繊維材
料と実質上水不溶性のヒドロゲル物質のばらばらの粒子
との実質上均一な組み合わせからなる流体貯蔵下層の両
方からなる。
流体取得上層は、密度約0.05〜0.25g/cm3を有し、そし
て任意に上層の約８重量％までの実質上水溶性のヒドロ
ゲル物質の粒子を含有できる。流体貯蔵下層は、密度約
0.06〜0.3g/cm3を有し、そして下層の約９〜60重量％の
ヒドロゲル粒子を含有しなければならない。
吸収芯の流体貯蔵下層は、流体取得／分布上層のトップ
表面積の約0.25〜1.00倍であるトップ表面積を有する。
流体貯蔵下層は、更に、下層中のヒドロゲル物質の少な
くとも約75％が物品の前方2/3のセクションに見出さ
れ、かつ下層中の全ヒドロゲル物質の少なくとも約55％
が物品の前方半分のセクション内に見出されるような方
式で流体取得／分布上層に関して位置決めされる。
また、本発明は、吸収物品で使用できる前記の種類の二
層吸収芯それ自体に関する。また、吸収物品で利用され
る種類の芯は、ヒドロゲル吸収剤の特に効率良くかつ有
効な使用を与えることに加えて、着用および負荷の応力
下で余り引き裂かれないらしい。
発明の具体的説明 本発明の吸収物品は、有意量の水および屎尿、経血など
の***体液を吸収できる着用可能な使い捨て製品の形状
で製作され得る。このように、このような物品は、例え
ば使い捨ておむつ、成人用失禁パッド、生理用ナプキン
などの形態で製造され得る。
本発明の吸収物品は、一般に３つの基本構造コンポーネ
ントを具備する。１つのこのようなコンポーネントは、
細長い液体不透過性裏張りシートである。この裏張りシ
ート上には、それ自体２以上の別個の層からなることが
できる吸収芯が置かれる。この吸収芯上には、比較的疎
水性の透水性トップシートが置かれる。トップシート
は、着用者の皮膚の次に置かれる物品のエレメントであ
る。
本発明の特に好ましい吸収物品は、使い捨ておむつであ
る。使い捨ておむつの形態の物品は、米国特許Re等26,1
51号明細書、米国特許第3,592,194号明細書、米国特許
第3,489,148号明細書、および米国特許第3,860,003号明
細書に詳述されている。本発明の目的に好ましい使い捨
ておむつは、吸収芯の一面上に置かれるか同延であるト
ップシート、およびトップシートによって覆われる面と
反対の真の面上に置かれるか同延である液体不透過性バ
ックシートを具備する。バックシートは、最も好ましく
は、芯の幅よりも大きい幅を有し、それによって芯を超
えて延出するバックシートの側縁部を有する。おむつ
は、好ましくは砂時計形状で作られる。
本発明の物品の細長い裏張りシート（またはバックシー
ト）は、例えばポリエチレン、ポリプロピレン、または
実質上不透水性である他の可撓性防湿材料のプラスチッ
ク薄膜から作ることができる。エンボスカリパス約1.5
ミルを有するポリエチレンが、特に好ましい。本発明の
目的で、バックシートは、開いた平らな形状で等しくな
い長さおよび幅を有するならば細長い。
本発明の物品のトップシートは、ポリエステル、ポリオ
レフィン、レーヨンなどの合成繊維、または綿などの天
然繊維から部分的にまたは完全に作ることができる。繊
維は、典型的には熱結合法により、またはポリアクリレ
ートなどの重合体結合剤により一緒に結合される。この
シートは、実質上多孔性であり、そして流体をそれを通
して下にある二層吸収芯に容易に通過させる。トップシ
ートは、その構造物に使用される繊維および結合剤の選
択および処理に応じて多少疎水性にされ得る。本発明の
物品で使用されるトップシートは、前記物品の吸収芯に
比較して比較的疎水性である。トップシート構造物は、
一般に米国特許第2,905,176号明細書、米国特許第3,06
3,452号明細書、および米国特許第3,113,570号明細書に
開示されている。好ましいトップシートは、ポリエステ
ル、レーヨン、レーヨン／ポリエステル混紡またはポリ
プロピレンから作られる。
それ自体２以上の別個の層からなり、かつ好ましくは可
撓性である吸収芯は、細長い裏張りシートとトップシー
トとの間に位置決めされて本発明の吸収物品を形成す
る。この芯は、必須に流体取得／分布上層および流体貯
蔵下層の両方からなる。本発明の目的では、これらの２
種の層は、吸収芯の上部帯域および下部帯域を単に意味
し、必ずしも材料の単一の層またはシートには限定され
ない。このように、流体取得／分布上層および流体貯蔵
下層の両方は、実際に、後述のような所要の種類の材料
の種類のシートまたはウェブの積層物または組み合わせ
からなることができる。このように、ここで使用する
「層」なる用語は、「複数の層」および「層状」なる用
語を包含する。
吸収芯の１つの必須のエレメントは、本質上親水性繊維
材料からなる流体取得／分布上層である。この流体取得
／分布上層は、***された体液を迅速に捕集しかつ一時
的に保持するのに役立つ。このような流体は、ほとばし
りにおいて***されるので、取得／分布上層は、流体を
灯心作用によって迅速に取得しかつ初期流体接点から取
得／分布層の他の部分に輸送することができなければな
らない。本発明の文脈で、「流体」なる用語は液体を意
味することに留意すべきである。
各種の親水性繊維材料が、芯の流体取得／分布上層にお
いて使用できる。通常の吸収製品で使用するのに好適で
ある如何なる種類の親水性繊維も、本発明物品の芯の上
層で使用するのに好適である。このような繊維の特定例
は、セルロース繊維、レーヨン、およびポリエステル繊
維を包含する。好適な親水性繊維の他の例は、親水化疎
水性繊維、例えば界面活性剤処理またはシリカ処理熱可
塑性繊維である。また、通常の吸収構造物で有用である
のに十分な吸収能力のウェブを与えないが良好な灯心作
用性を与える繊維は、本発明の吸収芯の上層で使用する
のに好適である。その理由は、真の上層の主目的がトッ
プシートを通過している流体を取得しかつ分布すること
であるからである。上層内の繊維の灯心作用性は、この
ように主要な重要性を有する。入手性およびコストの理
由で、セルロース繊維、特に木材パルプ繊維が、好まし
い。
前記のように、吸収芯の上層の主要機能は、比較的疎水
性の透水性トップシートを通過する流体を受容し、そし
てこのような流体を上層の他の領域に輸送し、結局芯の
流体保持性ヒドロゲル含有流体貯蔵下層上に輸送するこ
とである。芯の取得／分布上層は、このようにヒドロゲ
ル物質を実質上含まないことができる。或いは、取得／
分布上層は、後述のように少量の粒状ヒドロゲル物質を
含有できる。このように、上層は、例えば、上層の約８
重量％まで、好ましくは約６重量％以下のヒドロゲル粒
子を含有できる。若干の場合には、流体取得／分布上層
におけるヒドロゲル粒子の存在は、実際に、上層の密度
を最適範囲内に維持して流体分布を促進するのに役立つ
ことができる。上層で任意に使用されるヒドロゲルの特
定の種類は、下層で必須に使用されるヒドロゲルの種類
と同一であるにはおよばない。
本発明の物品の流体取得／分布上層の形状、大きさおよ
び特性、例えば毛管現象（例えば、密度）は、***され
た体液を吸収する際の吸収物品の有効性を決定する際に
若干の重要性を有する。前記のように、芯の吸収性上層
は、好ましくは細長い。本発明の目的で、このことは、
裏張りシートのように、上層は、開いた平らな形状で等
しくない長さおよび幅を有するならば細長い。開いた形
状で上層は如何なる所望の形状も有することができ、例
えば矩形、台形、卵形、長円形または砂時計状であるこ
とができる。芯の流体取得／分布上層の形状は、しばし
ば、得られる吸収物品の一般形状を規定するであろう。
流体取得／分布上層は、一般に、密度約0.05〜0.25g/cm
3を有するであろう。吸収芯の上層の坪量は、典型的に
は、約0.015〜0.1g/cm2の範囲であろう。密度の値は、
新しくパックにしていない開いた切開したおむつについ
て測定された坪量および層カリパスから計算される。カ
リパスは、約10g/cm2の「穏やかな」負荷下で測定され
る。密度および坪量の値は、存在するならばヒドロゲル
粒子の重量を包含する。
本発明の好ましい態様においては、芯の流体取得／分布
上層は、砂時計状であろうし、そして実質上均一な密度
約0.07〜0.14g/cm3を有するであろう。好ましくは、芯
の流体取得／分布上層は、坪量約0.03〜0.06g/cm2を有
するであろう。
吸収芯の上層は、親水性繊維材料のウェブを作るのに好
適な如何なる常法によっても製造され得る。好ましく
は、上層は、所望の坪量のウェブが形成されるまで繊維
材料流をスクリーン上に空気抄造することによって形成
される。このようなウェブは、必要ならば、その後に高
密化され得る。或いは、層状構造物、例えば積層物が前
記の所要の密度を有するならば、流体取得／分布上層
は、ウェブ材料の数層からなることができ、または例え
ばティッシュペーパーの積層物または積み重ねからなる
ことができる。
本発明の物品の吸収芯の流体貯蔵下層は、本質上、親水
性繊維材料と、特定量の実質上水不溶性の流体吸収性ヒ
ドロゲル物質のばらばらの粒子との実質上均一な組み合
わせからなる。流体貯蔵層の主要機能は、***された体
液を取得／分布上層から吸収し、かつ着用者の動きの結
果として遭遇する圧力下でこのような流体を保持するこ
とにある。理想的には、流体貯蔵下層は、上層の取得流
体負荷の多くを水切りするであろう。
流体貯蔵下層内の親水性繊維材料は、流体取得／分布上
層で使用される前記のものと同一の種類を有することが
できる。上層の場合のように、セルロース繊維、特に木
材パルプ繊維および木材パルプティッシュが、好まし
い。
親水性繊維材料に加えて、本発明の物品の吸収芯の流体
貯蔵下層は、必須に、実質上水不溶性のヒドロゲル物質
のばらばらの粒子も含有する。このようなヒドロゲル物
質は、流体を吸収し、かつ中圧下でそれらを保持するこ
とができる無機または有機化合物である。
好適なヒドロゲルは、シリカゲルなどの無機物質または
架橋重合体などの有機化合物であることができる。架橋
は、共有結合、イオン結合、ファンデルワールス結合、
または水素結合によることができる。ヒドロゲル粒子重
合体の例は、ポリアクリルアミド、ポリビニルアルコー
ル、エチレン−無水マレイン酸共重合体、ポリビニルエ
ーテル、ヒドロキシプロピルセルロース、カルボキシメ
チルセルロース、ポリビニルモルホリノン、ビニルスル
ホン酸の重合体および共重合体、ポリアクリレート、ポ
リアクリルアミド、ポリビニルピリジンなどを包含す
る。他の好適なヒドロゲルは、米国特許第3,901,236号
明細書に開示のものである。吸収芯で使用するのに特に
好ましいヒドロゲル重合体は、加水分解アクリロニトリ
ルグラフトデンプン、アクリル酸グラフトデンプン、ポ
リアクリレート、およびイソブチレン−無水マレイン酸
共重合体またはそれらの混合物である。
ヒドロゲルの製法は、米国特許第4,076,663号明細書、
米国特許第4,286,082号明細書、第3,734,876号明細書、
第3,661,815号明細書、第3,670,731号明細書、第3,664,
343号明細書、第3,783,871号明細書、およびベルギー特
許第785,850号明細書に開示されている。
流体取得／分布上層に任意に見出され、かつ本発明の吸
収芯の流体貯蔵下層に必須に見出されるヒドロゲル物質
は、ばらばらの粒子の形で使用される。ヒドロゲル粒子
は、如何なる所望の形状も有することができ、例えば球
状または半球状、立方体状、棒状、多面体状などである
ことができる。大きい最大寸法／最小寸法比を有する形
状、例えば針、フレークおよび繊維も、本発明で使用す
ることが意図される。ヒドロゲル粒子の団塊も、使用で
きる。
ヒドロゲル含有層は、広範囲にわたって変化する粒径を
有するヒドロゲル粒子の場合に良く遂行すると期待され
るが、他の考慮は、非常に小さいが非常に大きい粒子の
使用を排除することができる。工業衛生の理由で、約30
μよりも小さい平均粒径は、余り望ましくない。約2mm
よりも大きい最小寸法を有する粒子も、吸収物品内に即
ちのように感じを生ずることがあり、このことは消費者
美的見地から望ましくない。更に、流体吸収速度は、ヒ
ドロゲルの粒径によって影響される。より大きい粒子
は、非常に減少された吸収速度を有する。平均粒径約50
μ〜約1mmを有するヒドロゲル粒子が、本発明で使用す
るのに好ましい。ここで使用する「粒径」なる用語は、
個々の粒子の最小寸法の重量平均を意味する。
本発明の物品の吸収芯の流体貯蔵下層で使用される親水
性繊維材料およびヒドロゲル粒子の相対量は、最も好都
合には下層の重量％によって表現され得る。本発明の吸
収芯の流体貯蔵下層は、下層の約９〜60重量％、好まし
くは約15〜40重量％のヒドロゲル物質を含有しなければ
ならない。ヒドロゲル物質のこの濃度は、ヒドロゲル対
繊維の重量比によっても表現され得る。これらの比率
は、約9:91から約60:40の範囲であることができる。大
部分の市販のヒドロゲルの場合には、最適のヒドロゲル
／繊維比は、約9:91から約50:50の範囲内である。コス
ト／性能分析基づいて、ヒドロゲル／繊維比約20:80か
ら約33:67が、流体貯蔵下層で使用するのに好ましい。
吸収芯のヒドロゲル含有流体貯蔵下層の密度は、得られ
る吸収物品の吸収性を決定する際に若干の重要性を有す
ることがある。流体貯蔵下層の密度は、一般に、約0.06
〜約0.3g/cm3の範囲内、更に好ましくは約0.09〜約0.18
g/cm3の範囲内であろう。典型的には、流体貯蔵下層の
坪量は、約0.02〜0.12g/cm2の範囲であることができ
る。上層の場合のように、下層の密度の値は、新しくは
パックされていない開いた切開した物品について測定さ
れた坪量および層カリパスから計算される。カリパス
は、10g/cm2の「穏やかな」負荷下で測定される。密度
および坪量の値は、ヒドロゲル粒子の重量を包含する。
本発明の好ましい態様においては、流体貯蔵下層は、親
水性繊維材料とヒドロゲル物質との緊密混合物からなる
であろう。ヒドロゲル粒子は好ましくは親水性繊維マト
リックス全体にわたって実質上均一に分布される。この
種の吸収芯の流体貯蔵下層は、親水性繊維とヒドロゲル
粒子との乾燥混合物を空気抄造し、得られたウェブを高
密化することによって形成され得る。このような方法
は、殴州特許公告第EP−Ａ−122,042号明細書に詳述さ
れている。この文献に指摘のように、流体貯蔵下層とし
て使用されるこの方法で形成されたウェブは、好ましく
は実質上非結合繊維からなり、そして好ましくは含水量
10％以下を有するであろう。
或いは、芯の流体貯蔵層として使用される親水性繊維材
料とヒドロゲル粒子との実質上均一な組み合わせは、テ
ィッシュペーパーなどの親水性繊維材料のシートによっ
て上包みされかつ分離される分散ヒドロゲル粒子の少な
くとも２層の積層物からなることができる。このような
積層構造物は、1983年12月20日出願の米国特許出願第56
3,339号明細書に詳述されている。
吸収芯のヒドロゲル含有流体貯蔵下層は、芯の流体取得
／分布上層と同じ大きさである必要はなく、事実吸収芯
の上層のトップ表面積（開いた形状）よりも実質上小さ
いトップ表面積（開いた形状）を有することができるこ
とが発見されている。一般に、流体貯蔵下層のトップ表
面積は、取得／分布上層のトップ表面積の0.25〜1.0倍
の範囲であろう。更に好ましくは、下層のトップ表面積
は、上層のトップ表面積の約0.25〜0.75倍のみ、最も好
ましくは約0.3〜0.5倍であるであろう。
本発明によれば、吸収芯の流体貯蔵下層は、吸収物品内
の裏張りシートおよび（または）流体取得／分布上層に
関して特定の位置関係で置かれなければならない。更に
詳細には、芯のヒドロゲル含有流体貯蔵下層は、ヒドロ
ゲルが***された体液を取得／分布上層から水切りしか
つ保持するように最も有効に配置されるように吸収物品
の前方に向けて一般に位置決めされなければならない。
本発明の目的では、本発明の吸収物品の前方は、着用者
の前方に置かれようとする吸収物品の端部を意味する。
このように、流体貯蔵下層は、体液の***点付近に置か
れるべきである。
ヒドロゲル含有流体貯蔵下層の一般に前方の位置決め
は、吸収物品の長さに沿って特定の点の前方に見出され
る下層の全ヒドロゲルの％を特定することによって規定
され得る。このように、本発明によれば、ヒドロゲル含
有流体貯蔵下層は、（１）流体貯蔵下層中の全ヒドロゲ
ルの少なくとも約75％が吸収物品の前方2/3のセクショ
ン内に見出され、かつ（２）流体貯蔵下層中の全ヒドロ
ゲルの少なくとも約55％が吸収物品の前方半分のセクシ
ョン内に見出されるように細長い裏張りシートおよび
（または）取得／分布上層に関して位置決めされる。
更に好ましくは、芯の流体貯蔵下層は、下層中の全ヒド
ロゲルの少なくとも約90％が前方2/3のセクションに見
出され、かつ下層中の全ヒドロゲルの少なくとも約60％
が吸収物品の前方半分のセクションに見出されるように
細長い裏張りシートおよび（または）取得／分布上層に
関して位置決めされる。前記のように、本発明の目的で
は、吸収物品の「セクション」は、吸収物品の長さを規
定する線上の所定の点の前方に見出される開いた吸収物
品のトップ表面積を参照することによって規定され得
る。
このような下層の位置決めを決定する目的で、吸収物品
の長さは、物品の細長い裏張りシートの標準最長縦方向
寸法と解釈されるであろう。細長い裏張りシートのこの
標準最長寸法は、着用者に適用された時の物品に関して
規定され得る。着用時に、裏張りシートの対向端は、こ
れらの接合端が着用者の腰の回りに円を形成するように
一緒に締結される。裏張りシートの標準長さは、このよ
うに（ａ）着用者の後方腰の中央における裏張りシート
の縁部上の点から股を通して（ｂ）着用者の前方腰の中
央における裏張りシートの対向縁上の点まで裏張りシー
トを通して走行する線の長さであるであろう。
吸収芯の上層が一般に吸収物品の形状を規定する通常の
場合には、物品の細長い裏張りシートの標準長さは、芯
の上層の最長縦方向寸法によって近似されるであろう。
このような場合には、ヒドロゲル含有流体貯蔵下層の位
置決めは、細長い取得／分布上層の前方部分に向けての
位置に関しても規定され得る。しかしながら、嵩減少ま
たは最小コストが重要である若干の応用においては（例
えば、成人用失禁物品）。流体取得／分布上層は、おむ
つまたは失禁構造物の一般形状を取らないであろう。む
しろ、上層は、一般に、着用者の性器領域のみを覆うよ
うに配置され、そしてこの場合には流体貯蔵下層と大体
同一のトップ表面積を有することができるであろう。こ
の場合には、流体取得／分布上層および同延の流体貯蔵
下層の両方は、下層のヒドロゲルの所要％が物品のそれ
ぞれ前方2/3および前方半分のセクションに見出される
ように裏張りシートによって規定されるような物品の前
方に向けて配置されるであろう。
吸収芯の流体貯蔵下層は、心地良いフィットと一致する
如何なる所望の形状も有することができ、例えば円形、
矩形、台形または長円形、例えば砂時計状、イヌの骨状
または卵形であることができる。この流体貯蔵下層は、
流体取得／分布上層から物理的に分離される必要はな
く、そして繊維材料の連続ウェブ内に高いヒドロゲル濃
度の帯域を単純に形成できる。しかしながら、更に好ま
しくは、吸収芯の流体貯蔵下層は、より大きい細長い取
得／分布上層の下に置かれる挿入物として使用できる別
のウェブからなるであろう。所望ならば、このような挿
入物は、高湿潤強度エンベロープウェブ、例えばティッ
シュペーパーまたは合成微孔、例えば不織材料に含まれ
て、ヒドロゲル粒子が挿入層から移行する可能性を最小
限にすることができる。このような上包みの別の目的
は、望ましくは二層芯の使用中の一体性を増大すること
である。このようなウェブは、事実、流体貯蔵挿入下層
に接着され得る。この接着操作を行うのに好適な手段
は、1984年９月17日出願の米国特許出願第651,374号明
細書に記載の接着剤噴霧法を包含する。
好ましい態様においては、吸収芯の流体貯蔵下層は、長
円形であろう。特に好ましい態様においては、噴霧接着
ティッシュで上包みされた長円形挿入物が、使用される
であろう。
本発明に係る吸収物品の一態様は、使い捨ておむつ、例
えば図面に示されるものからなる。この図面は、液体不
透過性の細長い裏張りシート101および疎水性の透水性
トップシート102を具備する砂時計状おむつ構造物を示
す。構造物の吸収芯は、２つの別の層、即ち砂時計状の
流体取得／分布上層103およびより小さい卵形の挿入流
体貯蔵下層104からなる。上層103は、空気抄造セルロー
ス繊維のウェブからなる。卵形の挿入下層104も、セル
ロース繊維のウェブからなり、そしてこの卵形の挿入下
層全体にわたって分布された水不溶性ヒドロゲルのばら
ばらの粒子105を含有する。卵形の挿入下層104は、おむ
つの前方に向けて上層103の下に位置決めされる。この
ように、挿入下層104中のヒドロゲル物質105の少なくと
も90％は、上層103の前方2/3のセクションの下に見出さ
れ、そしてこのヒドロゲル物質105の少なくとも60％
は、上層103の前方半分のセクションの下に見出され
る。
本発明の別の態様は、例えば半使い捨て再使用可能なバ
ックシートに取外自在に貼着できる使い捨て二層吸収芯
それ自体に関する。このような芯は、本質上、本発明の
使い捨て吸収物品で使用される前記のものと同一であ
る。しかしながら、このような芯自体の流体貯蔵下層中
のヒドロゲルの位置決めは、芯の細長い流体取得／分布
上層の前方2/3および前方半分のセクションに関して規
定されなければならない。このように、使い捨て芯それ
自体は、下層のヒドロゲル少なくとも約75％が上層の長
さによって規定されるような細長い芯の前方2/3のセク
ションに見出され、かつ下層のヒドロゲルの少なくとも
約55％が細長い上層の長さによって規定されるような芯
の前方半分のセクションに見出されるように、流体取得
／分布上層に関して特に位置決めされるか、その中で不
均一なヒドロゲル分布を有する流体貯蔵下層を利用す
る。このような使い捨て芯それ自体は、好ましくは前記
のように液体透過性トップシート材料、例えばティッシ
ュまたは不織材料で上包みされるかトップで少なくとも
覆われる。
繊維材料およびヒドロゲル物質を特定量で含有する別の
特別に位置決めされた帯域を有する本発明の吸収物品お
よび吸収芯は、以下の例によって更に例示される。
例 Ｉ 熱結合ポリプロピレントップシート、トップシートの下
に位置決めされた砂時計状主要芯、砂時計状芯の下に位
置決めされた卵形挿入物、および砂時計状芯層および挿
入芯層の流体不透過性ポリスチレン裏張りシートを利用
して、二芯使い捨ておむつを作る。砂時計状の主要芯
は、主要量のセルロース木材パルプ繊維および微量のデ
ンプンアクリレートヒドロゲル物質のばらばらの粒子か
らなる。卵形の挿入層は、セルロース木材パルプ繊維
と、砂時計状層よりも有意に高い濃度で存在する同一の
デンプンアクリレートヒドロゲル物質のばらばらの粒子
との空気抄造混合物からなる。卵形挿入物は、挿入層中
のヒドロゲル物質の90％が使い捨ておむつの前方2/3の
セクション内に見出され、かつ挿入物中のヒドロゲルの
約60％が使い捨ておむつの前方半分に見出されるように
砂時計状物の前方に向けて位置決めされる。
本例Ｉのおむつの吸収芯の２層を表Ｉに更に完全に記載
する。
表 Ｉ 砂時計状物： 密度 0.22g/cm3 坪量 0.033g/cm2 面積 643cm2 ヒドロゲル☆％ 砂時計状物の２重量％ 挿入物： 密度 0.22g/cm3 坪量 0.05g/cm2 面積 221cm2 ヒドロゲル☆％ 砂時計状物の２重量％ 全ヒドロゲル含量 全芯の8.1重量％ ☆ ヒドロゲルは、サンウェット（Sanwet）IM−1000、
即ちサンヨー・ケミカル・インダストリーズ・インコー
ポレーテッドによって市販されているデンプンアクリレ
ート物質である。
例 III 構造が例Ｉのおむつに類似であるもう１つの二芯使い捨
ておむつを作る。本例IIの物品においては、吸収芯の砂
時計状流体取得／分布上層は、おむつ中のヒドロゲルの
すべてがより小さい卵形挿入層に見出されるようにヒド
ロゲル物質を全く含有していない。再度、挿入物は、卵
形挿入層中のヒドロゲル物質の100％がおむつの前方2/3
のセクションに見出され、かつ、卵形挿入物中のヒドロ
ゲル物質の約60％がおむつの前方半分に見出されるよう
に、おむつの前方に向けて砂時計状上層の下に位置決め
される。
この態様においては、卵形挿入層は、噴霧接着高湿潤強
度ティッシュで上包みされて、ヒドロゲルの粒子が卵形
挿入芯からおむつの他の部分に移行するのを防止する。
本例の使い捨ておむつを表IIに更に完全に記載する。
例 III 例Ｉに記載のようなおむつの流体保持有効性を漏れ研究
によって決定する。このような漏れ研究においては、お
むつを実際に幼児によって着用する。幼児を試験時に設
定されている保育学校のように遊ばせる。漏れが生ずる
まで、おむつを幼児上に残す。試験をスピードアップす
るために、合成尿の一部分を所定量で添加する。漏れ試
験の結果を破損時のおむつの平均流体容量（fluid capa
city）によって報告する。おむつの芯のセルロース繊維
部分が繊維1g当たり約4.0〜4.5gの流体を保持するであ
ろうと仮定することによって、大体の全体の有効ヒドロ
ゲル容量（hydrogel capacity）を模擬使用条件下での
ヒドロゲル1g当たりの保持流体のｇによって計算するこ
とが、可能である。
漏れ研究で試験されたおむつは、砂時計状主要吸収芯お
よび砂時計状芯の下に位置決めされかつおむつの前方に
向けて置かれる卵形挿入芯を有する例Ｉの種類のおむつ
であった。これらの２つの芯の密度、坪量および表面積
は、表Ｉに表される通りである。次いで、砂時計状物お
よび挿入物中のヒドロゲルの量を表IIIに記載のように
変える。
表IIIのデーターは、ヒドロゲル粒子を大部分を前方に
位置決めされた挿入芯に入れることによって、有効ヒド
ロゲル容量が増大され得ることを示す。更に、これらの
おむつ実施物のすべてのおむつ容量（diaper capacit
y）は、挿入物中に大部分ヒドロゲルを有するむつ3,4,5
および６がより少ない合計量のヒドロゲルを使用すると
しても有意には異ならないことがわかる。
例 IV 主要上層中にヒドロゲルを有していない例IIのおむつ
も、漏れ研究において試験する。例IIのおむつの性能
を、砂時計状主要芯および砂時計状物の下に置かれるよ
り小さい卵形挿入物の両方の全体にわたって均一に分布
されたヒドロゲルを有する同様の二芯おむつの性能と比
較した。再度、破損時の全おむつ容量およびヒドロゲル
1g当たりの保持流体によるヒドロゲル効率の測定値を求
めた。また、主要砂時計状芯上層で生ずる流体灯心作用
の程度を測定した。
試験されたおむつ、漏れ研究および灯心作用の結果を表
IVに示す。
表IVのデータは、ヒドロゲルをおむつの前方に向けて位
置決めされた特定の種類のより小さい挿入芯を排外的に
入れることによって実現できるヒドロゲル流体吸収性能
の改良効率を実証する。また、表IVのデータは、ヒドロ
ゲルを含まない砂時計状芯がヒドロゲル含有砂時計状物
よりも良好な灯心性能を与える傾向があることを実証す
る。しかしながら、尿が更に灯心作用を受けて本発明の
おむつ内の砂時計状芯の後部に行くとしても、依然とし
て、おむつの後部においてトップシートを通しての皮膚
の再湿潤は、実質上ないことに留意すべきである。その
理由は、砂時計状物の後方における尿負荷が挿入物中の
尿負荷に比較して比較的小さいからである。
例ＩおよびIIのおむつは、事実、***された尿を捕捉
し、かつこのような尿をおむつのヒドロゲル含有流体貯
蔵下層に保持する際に特に有効である。このように、お
むつをあてた皮膚と屎尿混合物との接触は、実質上な
い。おむつの異なる領域への尿および糞便の分離は、お
むつかぶれの発生の防止または減少の点から有為な皮膚
状態上の利益を与えることができる。
例 Ｖ〜IX 例IIのおむつに類似の数種の二層おむつ実施物を作り、
単一の砂時計状芯に均一に分布されたヒドロゲルを有す
るコントロールおむつと比較試験する。二芯おむつは、
すべて、大体長さ38.7cm×幅25.4cm（面積625.6cm2）で
ある砂時計状流体取得／分布上層および大体長さ25.4cm
×幅11.4cm（面積270.9cm2）であるティッシュ包装の長
円形の流体貯蔵挿入下層を有する。各層中のセルロース
繊維およびヒドロゲルの量を変えるが、すべての場合
に、挿入物中のヒドロゲル物質の少なくとも約90％がお
むつの前方2/3のセクションに見出され、かつ挿入物中
のヒドロゲルの少なくとも約60％がおむつの前方半分に
見出されるように、流体貯蔵挿入下層をおむつの前方に
向けて位置決めする。コントロールおむつは、大体長さ
38.7cm×幅21.6cm（面積614.2cm2）である単一のティッ
シュ包装の砂時計状芯を有する。
これらのむつのすべてを表Ｖに詳述する。また、表Ｖ
は、単一芯おむつの芯で使用された材料のコストに対し
て二層芯おむつの芯で使用された材料の相対コストの指
示を包含する。
表Ｖの単一層芯おむつおよび二層芯おむつを２種の漏れ
研究で誌験する。１つのこのような研究は、前記例III
に記載されるのと同一の一般型を有する。破損時の全体
の平均尿負荷および有効平均ヒドロゲル負荷を与えるこ
とに加えて、このような試験は、数種の追加のおむつ性
能パラメーターの測定値も与える。例えば、注意深く目
視検査することにより、そしておむつを着用期間の終り
に切開することにより、おむつの芯が着用および負荷応
力下で一緒に保持し、引き裂けなかったかどうかを確認
することができる。また、おむつの各層によって保持さ
れる尿の％、例えば流体貯蔵層中に保持される尿の％を
測定することが可能である。最後に、取得／分布層のど
の位までの後部が湿潤されているかを測定することによ
って取得／分布層によって与えられる灯心作用の程度を
決定することが可能である。
第二の種類の漏れ研究においては、おむつは、実際の使
用条件下で家庭で幼児によって着用される。母親は、試
験おむつを取外時に秤量し、漏れが生じている程度を観
察し、記録する。この方法で、所定の負荷水準までに破
損する試験おむつの％を計算することが可能である。
これらの２種の漏れ研究からの結果を表VIに示す。表VI
のデータは、数回の試験の平均を表わす。すべての種類
の漏れデータが、試験されたおむつの種類毎に入手でき
るわけではない。
表VIのデータは、本発明の二芯形状を利用するおむつ構
造物によって与えられる多数の重要な利点があることを
示す。第一に、ヒドロゲルは、コントロールとの比較に
おいて改良ヒドロゲル負荷値によって最良に示されるよ
うに、かなり効率よく利用されることがわかる。更に、
貯蔵層は、半分未満の吸収剤重量を与えるとしても、流
体の大部分（例えば、70〜80％）を含有する。このこと
は、この層に貯蔵される流体が加圧時に放出に対して更
に抵抗性であるのて望ましい。このように、本発明のお
むつは、トップシートを通しての流体バックの放出を最
小限にし、それによって幼児の皮膚をより乾燥に保つ。
また、流体の大部分をおむつの前方に向けて位置決めさ
れた流体貯蔵層内に保持させることによって、尿が着用
者の皮膚と接触しているおむつのバックにおいて糞便と
混合する傾向が有意に減少されることに留意すべきであ
る。
また、表VIのデータは、二層芯製品内での灯心作用が芯
の取得／分布上層のバックにおけるかなり小さい乾燥領
域によって示されるようにかなり更に効率良いことを実
証する。更に、二層芯構造物は、ベースの層なし芯製品
に対してのおむつ引裂減少率によって示されるように改
善された耐引裂性を有することがわかる。
最後に、表VIのデータは、より高いおむつ容量が芯材料
の同様の相対コストで得ることができることを示し、ま
たは或いは大体等しいおむつ容量が更に効率良い使用お
よびヒドロゲル物質の配置のため単一の均一芯構造物に
比較して20〜30％少ないコストで実現され得ることを示
す。二層芯製品が漏れ研究の文脈において均質芯製品と
等しい容量を有するように設計されている時でさえ、そ
れらの性能は更に信頼性があり並びに更に効率良いの
で、二層デザインは、家庭使用において漏れがより少な
いであろう。このようなより良い信頼性は、一晩の応力
使用下での家庭試験におけるより低い漏れ率によつて最
良に示される。

Claims (13)

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項１】 （Ａ）液体不透過性の細長い裏張りシート、 （Ｂ）比較的疎水性の液体透過性トップシート、および （Ｃ）前記裏張りシートと前記トップシートとの間に位
    置決めされた吸収芯を具備し、前記芯は （ｉ）密度0.05〜0.25g/cm3を有し、かつ本質上親水性
    繊維材料および上層の０〜８重量％の実質上水不溶性の
    ヒドロゲル物質の粒子からなる流体取得／分布上層、お
    よび （ii）密度0.06〜0.3g/cm3を有し、かつ本質上親水性繊
    維材料と、下層の９〜60重量％の実質上水不溶性のヒド
    ロゲル物質の粒子との実質上均一な組み合わせからなる
    流体貯蔵下層からなり、前記流体貯蔵下層は、前記流体
    取得／分布上層のトップ表面積の0.25〜1.0倍であるト
    ップ表面積を有し、そして前記流体貯蔵下層は、更に前
    記下層中のヒドロゲル物質の少なくとも75％が吸収物品
    の前方2/3のセクション内に見出されかつ前記下層中の
    ヒドロゲル物質の少なくとも55％が前記吸収物品の前方
    半分のセクション内に見出されるような方式で前記裏張
    りシートおよび前記上層に関して位置決めされることを
    特徴とする使い捨て吸収物品。
  2. 【請求項２】 （Ａ）流体取得／分布上層が、細長く、かつ密度0.07〜
    0.14g/cm3を有し、 （Ｂ）流体貯蔵下層が、親水性繊維材料とヒドロゲル粒
    子との緊密混合物からなり、そして密度0.09〜0.18g/cm
    3を有し、 （Ｃ）流体貯蔵下層が、前記下層の15〜40重量％の、親
    水性繊維マトリックス全体にわたって実質上均一に分布
    されたヒドロゲル物質を含有し、 （Ｄ）流体貯蔵下層が、前記上層のトップ表面積の0.25
    〜0.75倍であるトップ表面積を有し、 （Ｅ）前記流体貯蔵下層中のヒドロゲル物質の少なくと
    も90％が、吸収物品の前方2/3のセクションに見出さ
    れ、そして流体貯蔵下層中のヒドロゲル物質の少なくと
    も60％が、吸収物品の前方半分のセクションに見出され
    る特許請求の範囲第１項に記載の物品。
  3. 【請求項３】流体貯蔵層が、親水性繊維材料のシートに
    よって分離されかつ親水性繊維材料のシートで上包みさ
    れる分散ヒドロゲル粒子の少なくとも２層の積層物から
    なる特許請求の範囲第１項に記載の物品。
  4. 【請求項４】親水性繊維材料が、セルロース繊維からな
    り、そして実質上水不溶性のヒドロゲル物質が、加水分
    解アクリロニトリルグラフトデンプン、アクリル酸グラ
    フトデンプン、ポリアクリレート、イソブチレン−無水
    マレイン酸共重合体またはこのようなヒドロゲル物質の
    混合物から選択される特許請求の範囲第１項乃至第３項
    のいずれか１つに記載の物品。
  5. 【請求項５】流体取得／分布上層が、ヒドロゲル物質を
    実質上含まない特許請求の範囲第１項乃至第４項のいず
    れか１つに記載の物品。
  6. 【請求項６】流体取得／分布上層が、前記上層の６重量
    ％までの量のヒドロゲル粒子を含有する特許請求の範囲
    第１項乃至第４項のいずれか１つに記載の物品。
  7. 【請求項７】 （Ａ）流体取得／分布上層が、坪量0.015〜0.1g/cm2を
    有し、そして （Ｂ）流体貯蔵下層が、坪量0.20〜0.12g/cm2を有する
    特許請求の範囲第１項乃至第６項のいずれか１つに記載
    の物品。
  8. 【請求項８】流体取得／分布上層が一般に砂時計の形を
    しており、流体貯蔵下層が一般に長円形である使い捨て
    おむつの形状の特許請求の範囲第７項に記載の物品。
  9. 【請求項９】前記の一般に長円形の流体貯蔵下層が、セ
    ルロース繊維と実質上水不溶性のヒドロゲル物質の粒子
    との空気抄造混合物からなる特許請求の範囲第８項に記
    載の物品。
  10. 【請求項１０】前記の流体貯蔵下層中のヒドロゲルの粒
    子は、大きさが約50μｍ〜1mmの範囲であり、前記粒子
    は前記下層の15〜40重量％を含んでなる特許請求の範囲
    第８項および第９項のいずれかに記載の物品。
  11. 【請求項１１】前記流体貯蔵下層が、高湿潤強度エンベ
    ロープウェブで上包みされる別個の挿入層である特許請
    求の範囲第４項乃至第８項のいずれか１つに記載の物
    品。
  12. 【請求項１２】エンベロープウェブが、ティッシュであ
    り、かつ流体貯蔵挿入下層に接着剤噴霧される特許請求
    の範囲第11項に記載の物品。
  13. 【請求項１３】吸収物品で使用するのに好適な使い捨て
    二層吸収芯であって、 （Ａ）密度0.05〜0.25g/cm3を有し、かつ本質上親水性
    繊維材料および上層の０〜８重量％の実質上水不溶性の
    ヒドロゲル物質の粒子からなる細長い流体取得／分布上
    層、および （Ｂ）密度0.06〜0.3g/cm3を有し、かつ本質上親水性繊
    維材料と、下層の９〜60重量％の実質上水不溶性のヒド
    ロゲル物質の粒子との実質上均一な組み合わせからなる
    流体貯蔵下層からなり、 前記流体貯蔵下層は、前記流体取得／分布上層のトップ
    表面積の0.25〜1.0倍であるトップ表面積を有し、そし
    て前記流体貯蔵下層は、更に前記下層中のヒドロゲル物
    質の少なくとも75％が前記吸収芯の前方2/3のセクショ
    ンに見出され、かつ前記下層中のヒドロゲル物質の少な
    くとも55％が前記吸収芯の前方半分内に見出されるよう
    な方式で前記上層に関して位置決めされることを特徴と
    する使い捨て二層吸収芯。
