The carbon-containing substance thus crystallized is called quiche graphite, and in particular, in the manufacturing process of foundry pig iron, silicon is actively added, so the solubility of carbon decreases and a large amount of quiche graphite is produced. The above-mentioned quiche graphite contains about 20 to 60% graphite, and the main impurity is iron oxide, and also contains small amounts of oxides such as calcium oxide, alumina, and silica.

Graphite is generally recovered by appropriately combining them.

After that, the water slurry containing the crushed material is subjected to magnetic beneficiation to remove iron compounds, thereby obtaining high-purity graphite. Furthermore, it is more effective if a step of washing and separating impurities with water is added before crushing the quiche graphite, and thereby the quiche graphite can be purified to a higher degree.

As a result, when using a crushing method such as a roller mill or a ball-based mill, the coarse quiche graphite is crushed by the pressing force from two opposing directions, and although the appearance may be small, it looks like a black quiche. It seems that impurities are buried in the graphite, and it has been found that not only is the separation efficiency of the two poor, but also that the two that have been separated may be recombined. For this purpose, further studies were conducted on peeling or dissociation means.

It has been found that separation by these means is called crushing) or collision of wave energy based on ultrasonic waves etc. is optimal. In other words, according to these methods, since the quiche graphite can be crushed by an instantaneous external force from one direction, it is possible to efficiently dissociate both graphite and impurities without causing an inconvenient phenomenon such as burying each other due to encroachment. be. Note that the above-mentioned crushing may be carried out under either hot conditions or dry conditions.

した。The present inventors continued research from various angles based on the results. According to the report, by adopting the above-mentioned superior method, the phenomenon that some of the impurities attached to the surface of Quiche graphite and other mixed impurities bite into the graphite layer is reduced compared to the conventional grinding method using a ball mill or roller mill. Although it was possible to reduce the amount considerably,
It has been found that such a phenomenon is unavoidable to partially occur even with the crushing means of the present invention, and that this somewhat impairs the impurity separation effect in the subsequent process. Therefore, the present inventors thought that it would be good to reduce the impurities as much as possible in advance before crushing the quiche graphite, and studied specific means for doing so. As a result, it was found that washing the quiche graphite with water before crushing it is extremely effective in separating and removing impurities.

総量の軽減を招き、その点からも極めて効果的である。The specific method for cleaning and separation is not limited in any way as long as it can perform cleaning and separation separately or simultaneously, and for example, a device such as a Wilfrey table can be used. This device places a plate-like member with many parallel grooves formed at an angle, places quiche graphite on top of the plate-like member, and vibrates the plate-like member while flowing water from above. This method uses the difference in the specific gravity of impurities to separate and remove large impurities with relatively high specific gravity. Performing such cleaning and separation before crushing the quiche graphite leads to a reduction in the total amount to be crushed, and is extremely effective from that point of view as well.

For example, the dust collected from the collection site CD contains a large amount of large impurities such as grained iron and slag larger than +20 mesh. It is also effective to remove these impurities from the dust by classification prior to purification. Although a small amount of quiche graphite is naturally attached to these large impurities, the amount is extremely small and the quiche graphite is mostly distributed in the range of +100 mesh to +170 mesh. From this point of view, it is also effective to remove impurities smaller than 1170 mesh in dust by classification [for example, dust at collection site (A)].

In other words, since calcium oxide impurities are relatively brittle and easy to crush,
It is easily separated into fine particles by crushing, and such fine particles can be removed to an hour wheel by classification. From this point of view, in order to separate calcium oxide-based impurities, quiche graphite is first crushed under relatively mild conditions that do not fragment more than necessary, then classified. Further crushing for the purpose of separating impurities is also mentioned as an example of purification means. However, as shown in Table 1 above, the majority of the dust obtained from the collection site (C) is 20 to 170 meshes, and the content of quiche graphite is high, so it is difficult to use such dust as a raw material. When used, the dust may be used as crude quiche graphite and directly transferred to the purification step without being classified.

If the high-purity graphite obtained by this method is further subjected to treatments such as flotation and chemical beneficiation (acid treatment), even higher purity graphite (approximately 99% or more) can be obtained, making it possible to obtain higher purity graphite than conventional natural graphite use. It can also be applied to technical fields. Furthermore, the above-mentioned flotation is particularly effective when a relatively large amount of impurities other than suction oxides is contained.

Quiche graphite having the properties shown in Table 7 was obtained. The recovery rate at this time was 95% of the quiche graphite content before washing, and the effect of reducing the load in the next crushing step was remarkable.

The quality of the graphite thus obtained was as shown in Table 8 below. The recovery rate of graphite at this time was 79% of the graphite (calculated amount) of the crude quiche graphite, and even with the addition of preliminary water washing, there was no negative effect on the recovery rate at all, and the graphite purity could also be increased. ing.

Quiche graphite was purified according to the process. Note that the numerical values in the figure are values when the amount of dust used is 100. Further, the conditions for the second crushing, washing separation, and magnetic beneficiation are the same as in the above-mentioned example. However, the first crushing was performed at a rotation speed of 2000 rpm.
