Preferred embodiments of the present invention will be described below with reference to the drawings. In the drawings, similar components are provided with similar reference numerals. The present invention is not limited to the following embodiments. X, Y and Z shown in each figure mean three coordinate axes orthogonal to each other. The directions indicated by the XYZ coordinate axes in each figure are common to each figure.
(Polarizer)
FIG. 1 shows the surface (light receiving surface) of a polarizing
As shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the
An “optical film” means a film-like member (excluding the
A
As shown in FIG. 1, a
If the
On the other hand, in the present embodiment, the
The
The
A
The
In the
The width of the recess 2 (the width of the
The
The overall shape of the
The
For example, first, a PVA film is uniaxially or biaxially stretched. Uniaxially stretched
The thickness of the

The method for manufacturing the
In the lamination step, a laminate (first laminate) is produced by stacking a long strip-shaped polarizer film and at least a pair of long strip-shaped optical films and bonding them to each other. The long strip-shaped polarizer film is the
Before the cutting step, a recess may be formed in the outer periphery of the first laminate by punching or cutting. A knife or a laser may be used as means for cutting. However, it is difficult to form the above resin layer only by punching or cutting, and the polarizer is likely to be exposed in the concave portions.
As shown in FIGS. 5 and 6, the
In the cutting process, frictional heat is generated by friction between the
The cutting process may be repeated three or more times. For example, in the third cutting step, chips generated in the second cutting step may be removed from the end surfaces of the
The feed speed of the end mill in the cutting process may be 100 mm/min or more and less than 1000 mm/min. When the feeding speed of the end mill is 100 mm/min or more, the
The rotation speed of the end mill in the cutting step may be, for example, 500 rpm or more and 60000 rpm or less, preferably 10000 rpm or more and 60000 rpm or less, since the
The feed speed of the

(Example 1)
A first laminate was formed by bonding a pair of optical films to a polarizer via an adhesive layer. The first laminate had a rectangular shape. In the first laminate, a polarizer was placed between a pair of optical films. Both of the pair of optical films were composed of a cyclic olefin polymer resin. The polarizer was a stretched and dyed film of polyvinyl alcohol.

The thickness of the optical film attached to the other surface of the polarizer was 21 μm. The thickness of the polarizer was 8 μm. The thickness of the entire polarizing plate was 101 μm. The adhesive layer interposed between the optical film having a thickness of 52 μm and the polarizer was a polyvinyl alcohol-based resin (water glue). The amount of cutting in the second cutting process was the value shown in Table 1 below.
The rotation speed (R) of the end mill in the third cutting process was 30000 rpm.
