Description
The technology disclosed in the present specification relates to a thermoelectric conversion module that converts thermal energy into electrical energy.
As a thermoelectric conversion module capable of converting thermal energy into electric energy, a module in which a number of π-type thermoelectric elements having the configuration shown in FIG. 13 are arranged between ceramic substrates as shown in FIG. 14 is known. Yes.
If this thermoelectric conversion module is used, waste heat from a heat source having a planar wall surface can be efficiently converted into electric energy. However, some heat sources do not have a flat wall surface (for example, a pipe). Therefore, a flexible thermoelectric conversion module is desired, but it is extremely difficult (practically impossible) to realize a flexible thermoelectric conversion module by changing the size of each part of the thermoelectric conversion module shown in FIG. It is.
Therefore, a thermoelectric conversion module having the configuration shown in FIGS. 15 and 16 has been proposed as a flexible thermoelectric conversion module that can also be used for pipes and the like.
That is, this thermoelectric conversion module (hereinafter referred to as a conventional configuration module) basically has a P-type and N-type thermoelectric element sandwiched between two polyimide sheets. However, in the conventional configuration module, the main part is a polyimide resin having a low thermal conductivity (hereinafter also referred to as a low κ part), but a part made of Cu having a high thermal conductivity (hereinafter also referred to as a high κ part). ) Is used. In the conventional configuration module, each member is arranged so that the high κ portion of each polyimide sheet is located at a portion corresponding to each end portion of the thermoelectric element outside the module.
An object of the disclosed technology is to provide a thermoelectric conversion module that is flexible and has higher performance than the above-described conventional configuration module.
In order to solve the above problems, a thermoelectric conversion module according to an aspect of the disclosed technology includes a sheet-like first insulating portion, a sheet-like second insulating portion, the first insulating portion, and the second insulating portion. A plurality of plate-like members each having a first end portion and a second end portion, which are made of a thermoelectric conversion material and are taken out of thermoelectric power generated between them, and are housed between the insulating portions, and each plate The first member having a shape covering a surface on the first insulating part side of the first end of each plate-like member disposed between the first member and the first insulating part.
The first high thermal conductivity portion having a higher thermal conductivity than the insulating portion, and the second end portion of each plate-like member disposed between each plate-like member and the second insulating portion. A second high thermal conductivity part having a shape that covers the surface on the insulating part side and having a higher thermal conductivity than the second insulating part.
If the said structure is employ | adopted, a flexible thermoelectric conversion module higher performance than the conventional structure module is realizable.
Hereinafter, the configuration of the thermoelectric conversion module developed by the inventors will be described in detail with reference to the drawings.

This
As shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the
Each

Each
The second
In addition, the first insulating

The N-type
Further, the size [total length L0, width (length in the vertical direction in FIG. 2) and thickness] of each
Furthermore, as a result of earnest studies by the inventors (details will be described later), the effective length L, which is the distance between the
Next, a more specific configuration of the
At the time of manufacturing the
As apparent from the configuration described above, the second sheet-
The 1st sheet-
That is, at the time of manufacturing the first sheet-
Next, as shown in FIG. 3B, a plurality of
Thereafter, as shown in FIG. 3C, a
In addition, the constituent material of the
After forming a material layer having insulation and flexibility on the entire surface of the
Furthermore, the 1st sheet-
After the manufacturing of the first sheet-
After the
Thereafter, on the structure where the adhesive is applied, the second sheet-
Next, the reason why the above configuration is adopted for the
As already described, as a sheet-like (film-like) thermoelectric conversion module, one adopting the configuration shown in FIGS. 13 and 14 (that is, the conventional configuration) has been developed. And if a conventional structure is employ | adopted, a temperature difference can be attached between the edge parts of a thermoelectric element. However, the temperature difference between the end portions of the thermoelectric element should be larger when the low thermal conductivity insulating layer (low κ portion) is not sandwiched between each end portion of the thermoelectric element and the high κ portion. Further, since the location where the high κ portion should be provided is the end portion of the thermoelectric element, if the high κ portion has an electrode shape connecting between the N-type thermoelectric element and the P-type thermoelectric element, There is no need to separately form electrodes.
Thus, there is a possibility that a high-performance thermoelectric conversion module can be realized by adopting the development configuration. Therefore, the inventors first performed a simulation calculation of the internal temperature distribution of the thermoelectric conversion module having the configuration shown in FIG. 4A and the thermoelectric conversion module having the configuration shown in FIG. 4B under the following conditions. .
Top surface temperature: 100 ° C
Bottom surface temperature: 0 ° C
Thermal conductivity of low κ part: 0.17 W / mK (≒ thermal conductivity of polyimide resin)
Thermal conductivity of high κ part: 401 W / mK (≈Cu thermal conductivity)
Thermal conductivity of thermoelectric element: 100 W / mK
In the above description and the following description, the upper surface temperature and the lower surface temperature are the temperature of the upper surface and the temperature of the lower surface in the configuration diagram of the thermoelectric conversion module (FIG. 4A, FIG. 4B, FIG. 7, etc.), respectively. That is.
As a result, a thermoelectric conversion in which a high κ portion having a thickness of 25 μm and a length of 45 μm is formed on a surface opposite to each end portion of the thermoelectric element having a thickness of 1 μm and a length of 100 μm via a low κ portion having a thickness of 1 μm, respectively. The internal temperature distribution of the module (FIG. 4A) was found to be that shown in FIG. 5A. Moreover, it turned out that the temperature distribution in the thermoelectric element of the said thermoelectric conversion module becomes what is shown in FIG. 6 (what is described as "conventional structure").
On the other hand, in a thermoelectric conversion module (FIG. 4B) in which a high κ portion having a thickness of 24.9 μm and a length of 45 μm is directly formed on the opposite surface of each end portion of the thermoelectric element of the same size, the internal temperature distribution is It became what was shown to FIG. 5B, and it turned out that the temperature distribution in a thermoelectric element becomes what is shown in FIG. 6 (what is described as "development structure"). Each curve described in FIG. 5A and FIG. 5B is a line (so-called isotherm) indicating a location where the temperature is the temperature (unit: ° C.) shown at the left end and the right end. FIG. 6 is a diagram in which the temperature of each part of the thermoelectric element is plotted against the distance from the left end of each part in FIGS. 4A and 4B (“position” in FIG. 6).
These results are as follows: “If the development configuration is adopted (if a high κ part that functions as an electrode is formed directly on the surface opposite to each end of the thermoelectric element), it is larger than the case where the conventional configuration is adopted. This means that a temperature difference occurs between the ends of the thermoelectric element.
However, when the high κ portion that functions as an electrode is directly formed at each end of the thermoelectric element, the portion that actually functions as the thermoelectric element (that is, the thermoelectric element, The length of a portion not in contact with the high κ portion (hereinafter referred to as an effective portion) is reduced. And if the length of the effective portion decreases, the output decreases, so it is expected that the effective length L has an appropriate value.
Therefore, the inventors performed a simulation calculation of the temperature difference ΔT at both ends of the effective portion of the thermoelectric element of the thermoelectric conversion module having the configuration shown in FIG. 7 under the following conditions for various L values.
Top surface temperature: 100 ° C
Bottom surface temperature: 0 ° C
Thermal conductivity of the first low κ part: 1.5 W / mK (≈ glass thermal conductivity)
Thermal conductivity of the second low κ part: 0.2 W / mK (≈ thermal conductivity of polyimide resin)
Thermal conductivity of high κ portion: 401 W / mK (≈ copper thermal conductivity),
Thermal conductivity of thermoelectric element: 5W / mK
Next, a “ΔT 2 / L” value (hereinafter referred to as an E value) was calculated based on each simulation calculation result. The E (= ΔT 2 / L) value is calculated because this value is a value indicating the maximum output of the thermoelectric element.
Specifically, the resistance of the load connected to the thermoelectric element is R L , and the resistance of the effective portion of the thermoelectric element is R
When the current flowing through the load is expressed as I, the amount of electric power I 2 RL supplied to the load is maximized when R L = R. In this case, the electric energy Pmax is calculated by the following equation (1) from the resistance R of the effective portion of the thermoelectric element, the Seebeck coefficient S of the thermoelectric element, and the temperature difference ΔT between both ends of the effective portion of the thermoelectric element. I can do it.
Further, when the cross-sectional area of the thermoelectric element is denoted by A and the electric resistivity of the thermoelectric element is denoted by ρ, R = ρL / A is established. Therefore, the above equation (1) can be transformed into the following equation (2).
Thus, the E (= ΔT 2 / L) value can be used as a value corresponding to the maximum output of the thermoelectric element (a value proportional to Pmax). For this reason, the E value is calculated based on each simulation calculation result.
FIG. 8 shows the calculation result of the E value for each L value.
As is apparent from FIG. 8, the E value takes the maximum value when the effective length L is 200 μm, and takes the maximum value when the effective length L is 600 μm. If the L value is set to a value in the range of 14% to 30% of the total length L0, the E value is set to a relatively large value (a value larger than the E value when the effective length L is 600 μm). I can do it. Further, if the L value is 20% of the total length L0, the E value can be maximized.
Therefore, it is desirable to determine the size of each part of the
In addition, the manufacturing procedure of the
Therefore, the inventors can generate a sufficient temperature difference between the end portions of the
Specifically, the inventors of the thermoelectric conversion module shown in FIG. 9A, that is, a thermoelectric conversion module in which all of the adhesive layer is a material layer (low k adhesive layer in the figure) having low thermal conductivity. The simulation calculation of the internal temperature distribution was performed under the following conditions.
Top surface temperature: 100 ° C
Bottom surface temperature: 0 ° C
Thermal conductivity of low κ part: 0.2 W / mK (≒ thermal conductivity of polyimide resin)
Thermal conductivity of high κ part: 401 W / mK (≈Cu thermal conductivity)
Thermal conductivity of thermoelectric element: 5W / mK
Thermal conductivity of low-k adhesive layer: 0.2 W / mK
For comparison, the thermoelectric conversion having the configuration shown in FIG. 9B, that is, the configuration in which the low κ portion having a thickness of 12.5 μm is provided inside the high κ portion instead of the outside of the high κ portion (FIG. 9A). The simulation calculation of the internal temperature distribution of the module was also performed under the same conditions.
As a result, as shown in FIG. 10, even when the thermal conductivity of the adhesive layer has deteriorated for some reason, the thermoelectric conversion module adopting the developed configuration (configuration shown in FIG. 9A) is more suitable. It was confirmed that the temperature difference between the end portions of the thermoelectric element was larger than that of the thermoelectric conversion module adopting the conventional configuration (configuration shown in FIG. 9B).
However, this simulation calculation result also means that “a large temperature difference cannot be generated between the end portions of each
Finally, the examination result regarding the durability of the
The
Therefore, the inventors changed the temperature from 150 ° C. to 30 ° C. for four thermoelectric conversion modules having the configuration shown in FIG. 11 and having different electrode lengths L1 (lengths of high κ portions). The amount of warpage (the amount of change at the right end when the left end is fixed) was calculated by simulation. The simulation calculation was performed assuming that the constituent materials of the low κ part and the high κ part were polyimide resin and Cu, respectively, and the thermoelectric element was Si. That is, the simulation calculation was performed assuming that the elastic constant, Poisson's ratio, and thermal expansion coefficient of each part are as shown in the following table.
For comparison, a simulation calculation was also performed for the amount of warpage of a thermoelectric conversion module in which two high κ portions were provided on the same surface of a thermoelectric element.
As a result, as shown in FIG. 12, if two high κ portions are provided on the same surface of the thermoelectric element (“single-sided arrangement”), the amount of warpage becomes relatively large. It was confirmed that if the κ portion is provided on the opposite surface of the thermoelectric element (“double-sided alternate arrangement”), the amount of warpage can be made relatively small regardless of the electrode length L1.
Thus, the structure of the
<Modification>
The
