2. Description of the Related Art There are two types of sealed lead-acid batteries of a type in which oxygen gas generated during charging of a battery is absorbed by a negative electrode, a retainer type and a gel type. In the retainer type, a mat-like separator (glass separator) made of fine glass fiber is inserted between the positive electrode plate and the negative electrode plate, thereby holding the sulfuric acid electrolyte required for discharge and isolating both electrodes. No maintenance, no leakage,
In recent years, it has become widely used as a backup power source for portable devices and computers, taking advantage of its features such as position-free. However, in the case of a lead-acid battery using a clad-type positive electrode plate, contact between the electrode plate and the glass separator becomes poor due to the unevenness of the surface of the electrode plate,
This type of sealed battery has not yet been put to practical use because of the drawbacks such as insufficient supply of electrolyte to the positive electrode plate and poor discharge performance.

On the other hand, the gel type clad battery also has a disadvantage that the battery performance is inferior to the liquid type.

Means for Solving the Problems The present invention eliminates the drawbacks of the conventional sealed lead-acid battery described above, and provides an inexpensive sealed lead-acid battery having excellent discharge performance. 2 in each of the upper and lower joints made of resin
At least a plurality of protrusions are provided, the protrusions are used to maintain a constant distance from the negative electrode plate, and the space between the electrodes or around the electrode plate group is filled with fine silica powder as an electrolyte holder. Hereinafter, the present invention will be described based on examples.

Embodiment FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a clad-type positive electrode plate used for a lead-acid battery of the present invention. The current collector 5 for a clad-type electrode plate made of a Pb—Ca—Sn alloy uses an upper joint 2 and a lower joint 3. In addition, a clad type positive electrode plate 1 was produced using a normal glass tube 6 and lead powder. Describing the joint used here, the upper joint 2 and the lower joint 3 made of resin are provided with two protrusions 4 each having a diameter of 2 mm on both sides. The height of the protrusion was the same as the gap required between the positive electrode plate and the negative electrode plate when assembling the battery. This clad type positive electrode plate and a normal paste type negative electrode plate made of a Pb-Ca-Sn alloy lattice were laminated to prepare an electrode plate group. FIG. 2 shows a longitudinal sectional view of the electrode group. A major feature of the sealed lead-acid battery according to the present invention is that fine silica powder is used as an electrolyte holder. Therefore, in order to fill the silica powder between the positive electrode plate and the negative electrode plate with a constant thickness, it is important to keep the gap constant, and if this is not successful, a short circuit may occur. Therefore, in the present invention, projections are provided on the upper and lower joints of the clad type positive electrode plate, and the gap is maintained by the projections 4 as apparent from FIG. To simply maintain the gap between the poles, it is sufficient to increase the thickness of the joints. However, since it becomes difficult to fill the gap with the silica fine powder, the joints have a structure having protrusions.

Next, a capacity test of the prototype battery was performed. The test batteries had a nominal capacity of 45 Ah, and for comparison, conventional gel batteries and liquid batteries using the same lot of positive and negative plates were also tested.
Table 1 shows the results.

From this test result, the low rate discharge capacity and the high rate discharge capacity are higher in the liquid type than in the gel type, while the product of the present invention does not reach the capacity of the liquid type battery, but compared to the conventional sealed battery (gel type). The performance of both low-rate discharge and high-rate discharge was improved by 10 to 20%. This is because the specific gravity of the electrolyte was slightly higher than the gel type,
This is due to a synergistic effect that there is no need to use a separator that becomes a resistor during discharge and that the diffusion of acid is excellent.

Advantages of the Invention As is apparent from the above-described embodiments, the clad-type closed lead-acid battery according to the present invention can easily hold the electrolyte and separate the positive electrode from the negative electrode by filling the inside of the battery with granulated silica fine powder. With the simple operation, the discharge performance of the conventional sealed lead-acid battery has been greatly improved, and the industrial value is extremely large.
