実施形態13:触媒セグメントが、熱発生セグメントの下流で、かつ、エアロゾル発生セグメントの上流に配置されている、いずれかの前記又は後記実施形態に記載の喫煙物品。

実施形態16:フィルターが、多孔性モノリスエアロゲルを含む、いずれかの前記又は後記実施形態に記載の喫煙物品。
実施形態17:吸口端が、フィルターに分散されている複数のエアロゲル粒子を含み、粒子が、約1μm〜約250μmの平均粒径範囲を有する、いずれかの前記又は後記実施形態に記載の喫煙物品。
本発明の喫煙物品は、エアロゲルを含む。本明細書で用いる「エアロゲル」という用語は、相互連結ナノ構造網から構成され、約50%以上の多孔度(非固体の体積)を示す、金属系又は有機系化合物から作製された開放気泡型メソ多孔性固体フォームを指す。エアロゾルは、煙構成成分を捕捉又は変換することができる。エアロゲルは、喫煙物品によって発生された主流煙の1種以上の気相成分と直接に反応することができ、又は主流煙の気相成分を巻き込む反応を触媒することができ、又はこれらの両方を行うことができ、したがって気相成分の濃度が低減される。エアロゲルは、喫煙物品によって発生された主流煙の1種以上の気相成分を吸収又はトラップしてもよく、したがって気相成分の濃度が低減される。エアロゲルは、触媒金属化合物で任意選択的に含浸されてよく、又は少なくとも1種のエアロゾル形成材料及び/若しくは付香剤で被覆されてよい。
本発明に従って調製したエアロゲルは、全体として参照により本明細書に組み込む、Crooksらへの米国特許第7,971,590号又はBanerjeeらへの米国特許出願公開第2007/0215168号に記載されている喫煙物品のいずれかのような様々な喫煙物品において利用され得る。一般に、エアロゲルは、喫煙物品の約0.5〜約50重量%を占める。図1を参照すると、巻きタバコの形の代表的な喫煙物品10が示されている。喫煙物品10はロッド様形状を有し、点火端14及び吸口端18を含む。点火端14は、長手方向に伸びている略円柱状の熱発生セグメント35を含む。熱発生セグメント35は、絶縁物42で取り囲まれた熱源40を含み、これがラッピング材料45で同軸上に取り巻かれてよい。熱源40は、好ましくは点火端14の直接点火によって活性化されるように構成されている。喫煙物品10は、他端(吸口端18)に位置しているフィルターセグメント65、及びそれら2つのセグメント間に位置するエアロゾル発生セグメント51(タバコを組み込んでよい)も含む。
ステップ1:ゲル調製
触媒溶液は、0.20gのNa2CO3を100gの水に溶解することによって調製される。別個の容器で、1.00gのレゾルシノールが47.1gの水に溶解される。この溶液に、47gのホルムアルデヒド溶液と、続いて2.41gの調製された触媒溶液が添加される。反応混合物が封止され、24時間撹拌される。24時間後、反応混合物が、80℃のオーブンに移される。ゲルは、数時間〜1日以内に硬化し、オーブン中に約3日間置かれる。
ゲルが取り出され、アセトン、メタノール又はイソプロパノールへの溶媒交換が3〜5日間にわたって行われ、溶媒を少なくとも1日1回交換する。ゲルが、超臨界乾燥器に置かれる。液体CO2への交換が2〜3日間にわたって行われる。手順により、約100バールの圧力を維持しながら、CO2をこの臨界点(31.1℃及び72.9バール)を通って約45℃に加熱し、1時間当たり約7バールの速度で減圧した。
融解石英プロセスチューブを使用して、ステップ2からの有機エアロゲルが、Lindberg Blue/M(商標)Mini−Mite(商標)のような高温(最高1100℃)チューブ炉中において高温で加熱される。使用されているエンドキャップは、ガスタンクを石英チューブに連結し、さらに石英チューブの他端を排気ラインにも連結した。あるいは、ゲルは、温度計、セラミックるつぼ、並びにガスタンクアウトプットを炉インプット及び炉からの排気ラインに適合させる管継手を装備した高温箱形炉又はオーブン中で加熱され得る。
実施例1のステップ2において、ゲルはイソプロパノール中に置かれ、5回交換した点以外は実施例1に記載の一般手順に従って、炭素エアロゲルが調製された。また、超臨界乾燥が、以下に記載する超臨界抽出装置で実施された。超臨界CO2乾燥方法は、Jasco超臨界流体抽出装置で3日間にわたって実施された。エアロゲル出発物質は、ステンレス鋼カラムに置かれ、カラムオーブン中で32℃に加熱された。エアロゲル出発物質を乾燥するために、連続999分ランが、乾燥用溶媒として100%CO2を使用して32℃及び10MPaの一定の温度及び圧力で3回行われた。3回のランが完了すると、減圧方法が、0.7MPa/時、32℃の一定温度及び100%CO2で実行された。図2は、超臨界乾燥後のエアロゲルの写真である。この段階のエアロゲルは極度に軽量であり、クランベリー赤色である。
Claims (17)
- 点火端、フィルターを任意選択的に含む吸口端、任意選択の触媒セグメント、及びエアロゾル発生セグメントを含む喫煙物品であって、点火端が、熱発生セグメントを含み、熱発生セグメントが、燃料エレメントを含み、フィルター、触媒セグメント、及びエアロゾル発生セグメントの少なくとも1つが、エアロゲルを含み、エアロゾル発生セグメント及び熱発生セグメントが、物理的に別個のものであり、熱交換関係にある、喫煙物品。
- エアロゲルが、ケイ素、銅、鉄、チタニア、アルミニウム、ニッケル、パラジウム、白金、コバルト又はこれらの組合せから選択される金属を含む、請求項1に記載の喫煙物品。
- エアロゲルが、シリカエアロゲル、金属酸化物エアロゲル、有機エアロゲル、炭素エアロゲル、カルコゲン化物エアロゲル、ナノチューブ含有エアロゲル、又は金属エアロゲルである、請求項1に記載の喫煙物品。
- エアロゲルが、炭素エアロゲル又は金属酸化物エアロゲルである、請求項3に記載の喫煙物品。
- 金属酸化物エアロゲルが、IVB族、VB族、VIB族、VIIB族、VIIIB族、IB族、及びIIB族の遷移金属、IIIA族元素、IVA族元素、並びにこれらの組合せからなる群から選択される金属を含む、請求項4に記載の喫煙物品。
- エアロゲルが、主流煙中の一酸化炭素を吸着し、又は一酸化炭素から二酸化炭素への変換を触媒する、請求項1に記載の喫煙物品。
- エアロゲルが、触媒金属化合物で含浸されており、触媒金属化合物が、鉄、銅、亜鉛、セリウム、銀、及びこれらの組合せからなる群から選択される金属を含む、請求項1に記載の喫煙物品。
