Abstract
Description
【0001】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a feeding apparatus including a feeding tray for stacking sheets to be fed and an end fence for regulating a rear end position of the sheets stacked on the feeding tray, an image forming apparatus including the feeding apparatus, and an image forming apparatus. About the system.
[0002]
[Prior art]
2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, for example, in an image forming apparatus such as a copying machine or a printer, a feeding apparatus that stacks recording sheets, which are sheets of a predetermined size, on a feeding tray and feeds the sheets one by one has been used. I have.
The detection of the remaining number of recording sheets on the feeding tray performed by such a conventional feeding apparatus is, for example, to detect whether or not recording sheets are present on the feeding tray, or to detect the number of recording sheets on the feeding tray. It is general to detect the number of sheets at a rough number such as 50 or more or 100 or more. Therefore, the inaccuracy of the remaining number of sheets may cause the following inconvenience.
That is, in recent years, image forming apparatuses such as copiers and printers have advanced colorization and high-speed image formation. For example, an
[0003]
In such an image forming apparatus, if the remaining number of recording paper sheets stacked on the
In that case, all the extra images that could not be transferred to the recording paper are erased by the cleaning device, so that a completely unproductive operation is performed and toner is wasted. In addition, since a large amount of toner is collected by cleaning excess images, the load on the cleaning device also increases.
[0004]
Specifically, in the case of the example shown in FIG. 9, five images G 1 to G 5 can be carried on the
Thus, for example, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2001-114452 discloses a feeding device that detects the remaining number of recording sheets by detecting the stacking height of the recording sheets on the feeding tray.
This feeding device is provided with a distance measuring sensor capable of measuring a distance to an uppermost surface of a recording sheet stacked on a feeding tray (tray) which can be moved up and down by a motor, and measures a distance measured by the distance measuring sensor in advance. By subtracting from the stored distance from the feeding tray surface to the distance measuring sensor and obtaining the height of the recording sheets stacked on the feeding tray, the number of remaining recording sheets is known.
[0005]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, in the detection of the number of sheets remaining in the feeding device described in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2001-114452, the sensor detects the recording paper surface only on the upper surface side. When the stop position is displaced due to the variation of the stop accuracy due to the stop accuracy or the wear over time, the height of the recording paper stacked on the feeding tray cannot be accurately obtained in some cases. Therefore, when several sheets of recording paper on the feed tray are in the near-end state, the number of sheets cannot be accurately detected.
The present invention has been made in view of the above problems, and has as its object to enable a small number of sheets such as recording paper stacked on a feed tray to be accurately detected. .
[0006]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above object, the present invention provides a feeding tray for loading sheets, sheet feeding means for feeding sheets loaded on the feeding tray one by one, and a size of sheets loaded on the feeding tray. An end fence that is movable in accordance with the position and regulates the position of the rear end of the sheet in the sheet feeding direction.
A first sensor for measuring the distance to the upper surface of the bundle of sheets stacked on the feed tray; and a second sensor for measuring the distance to the lower surface of the bundle of sheets. 【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the feeding device of the present invention, the number of sheets stacked on the feeding tray is determined by the distance to the top surface of the sheet directly measured by the first sensor and the second sensor. Since the stacking height of the sheet can be accurately obtained by directly detecting the stacked height of the sheet from the distance to the lower surface of the sheet and the distance between the sensors, the number of remaining sheets is, for example, 5 or 6 near-end. , It can be accurately detected.
Thus, according to the image forming apparatus and the image forming system including the sheet feeding device, even if the image forming apparatus and the image forming system have a large image carrier capable of carrying a plurality of images at a time, the sheet on the feed tray is Since images can be formed in accordance with the exact number of remaining sheets, the number of images that are inadvertently formed on the image carrier is larger than the number of remaining sheets on the feed tray, and at that time, the images are transferred to the sheets. It is possible to prevent a non-productive operation in which a surplus image that cannot be obtained must be erased by the cleaning device. As a result, it is possible to prevent the toner from being wasted and to reduce the load on the cleaning device.
