Abstract
Description
【0001】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a remaining amount detecting device for detecting the number of remaining sheets stacked on a sheet feeding device that feeds stacked sheets one by one. More specifically, the present invention relates to a remaining amount detecting device for detecting the number of remaining sheets in a sheet bundle loaded in a sheet feeding device of an image forming apparatus such as a copying machine, a facsimile, a printer, or the like.
[0002]
[Prior art]
The present applicant has proposed a “paper feeding device” of Japanese Patent Application No. 0109841 as a paper feeding device of the image forming apparatus. This sheet feeding device is configured to feed the stacked sheets one by one, and has a remaining amount detecting device for detecting the remaining number of sheets of the stacked sheet bundle. In this remaining amount detecting device, the transmitted light amount of the stacked sheet bundle is detected by a first transmitted light amount detecting means, and the transmitted light amount of one fed sheet is detected by a second transmitted light amount detecting means. It is configured as follows. Then, the detected value of the first transmitted light amount detecting means is compared with the detected value of the second transmitted light amount detecting means, and the remaining number of sheets of the stacked sheet bundle is calculated and calculated by the calculating means. Is configured.
By using this remaining amount detecting device, for example, before forming a toner image on a photoconductor as an image carrier, a necessary number of sheets for transferring the toner image are stacked on a sheet feeding device. It is possible to detect in advance whether or not there is. Accordingly, when it is detected that the number of remaining sheets of the sheet bundle stacked on the sheet feeding device is smaller than the number of sheets necessary for transferring the toner image, the toner image is not formed on the photoconductor. be able to. As described above, by detecting the number of sheets remaining in the sheet bundle stacked on the sheet feeding device, it is possible to prevent a wasteful toner image from being formed on the photoconductor, and to avoid wasteful consumption of toner. .
[0003]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
By the way, if the light transmittance of one sheet (hereinafter, simply referred to as “transmittance”) is x, the theoretical relationship between the number of transmitted sheets and the transmittance is x 2 , X transmittance at 3 sheets 3 , X transmittance at 4 sheets 4 , The transmittance at the time of 5 sheets is x 5 It becomes. For example, the theoretical transmittance of each of the number of transmitted sheets (1 to 5 sheets) of one OHP sheet having a transmittance of 0.9 and one clear holder having a transmittance of 0.5 is shown in Table. The value is as shown in FIG.
[Table 1]
FIG. 12 is a graph showing the relationship between the theoretical transmittance of the OHP sheet and the clear holder and the number of transmitted sheets.
When the ratio between the transmittance x of one sheet and the number of transmitted sheets (the number of remaining sheets in the sheet bundle) z is a transmittance ratio (z / x), each transmittance x of one sheet (0.9 to The theoretical transmittance ratio (z / x) of 0.1) is a value as shown in Table 2.
[Table 2]
FIG. 13 is a graph showing the relationship between the theoretical transmittance x for one sheet and the transmittance ratio (z / x).
Therefore, in the remaining amount detecting device, the sheet feeding device is used irrespective of the paper type by using one theoretical operation formula based on the relationship between the transmittance x for one sheet and the transmittance ratio (z / x). Should be able to be calculated by the calculation means.
[0004]
However, as a result of examining the relationship between the transmittance of one sheet and the transmittance ratio of two, three, and four sheets of various sheets, as shown in FIG. It turned out that the graph fell downward to the right, contrary to the graph on the OHP sheet. Further, the graph of the plain paper was different from the graph of the second original drawing and the graph of the OHP sheet as shown in FIG.
Table 3 shows the measured data of the graphs of FIGS.
[Table 3]
[0005]
For this reason, in the remaining amount detection device, when the arithmetic unit detects the number of remaining sheets in the sheet bundle using one theoretical operation expression, the remaining amount of the sheet bundle in which the theory of the operation expression does not hold is obtained. It turns out that the number of sheets cannot be detected accurately.

BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
Hereinafter, an embodiment of a remaining amount detection device to which the present invention is applied will be described. FIG. 1 shows an example of an image forming apparatus equipped with the remaining amount detecting device. This image forming apparatus has a function as a so-called digital color copying machine that scans and reads an original, digitizes the original, and copies it on paper. The image forming apparatus also has a facsimile function for exchanging image information of a document with a remote location and a so-called printer function for printing image information handled by a computer on paper.

For this reason, when the arithmetic unit detects the number of remaining sheets in the sheet bundle using one arithmetic expression, as described above, the number of remaining sheets in the sheet bundle for which the theory of the arithmetic expression does not hold is accurately detected. There is a problem that can not be.
[0023]
The above problem can be solved by using the remaining amount detection device according to each embodiment described below. Note that among the components of the remaining amount detecting device according to the following embodiments, those having the same configuration and function as those of the remaining amount detecting device shown in FIG. The same reference numerals are given to the respective components, and the description is omitted.
[0024]
(Embodiment 1)
The remaining amount detecting device according to the first embodiment has the following features in addition to the configuration of the remaining amount detecting device. The remaining amount detection device according to the first embodiment identifies the type of sheet based on the transmittance of the sheet at the time of one sheet, and uses the arithmetic expression suitable for the type of sheet to load the sheet on the
The configuration of the remaining amount detecting device according to the first embodiment will be described with reference to FIG. FIG. 5 is a graph schematically illustrating an example of an arithmetic expression used in the arithmetic unit. The horizontal axis x of the graph shown in FIG. 5 is the transmittance (%) of one stacked sheet, and the vertical axis y is the transmittance ratio (z / x) × 100 (%). In FIG. 5, the range of 40 ≦ x <97 is the area of the OHP sheet, and the arithmetic expression for discriminating one sheet and two sheets in the arithmetic unit is y = ax + b. In FIG. 5, the range of 0.1 ≦ x <40 is the area of plain paper, and the arithmetic expression for discriminating one sheet and two sheets in the arithmetic unit is y = 20. Here, for example, if x = 20 and z = 10, the range of 0.1 ≦ x <40 is satisfied, and therefore, the arithmetic expression of plain paper y = 20 is used as the arithmetic expression of the arithmetic unit. If y is greater than 20, the remaining number of sheets in the sheet bundle is identified as one, and if y is less than 20, it is identified as two or more. As shown, when y = (10/20) × 100 = 50, it is determined that the number of remaining sheets in the sheet bundle is one. Here, when the remaining number of sheets in the sheet bundle is two or more, these are calculated using other arithmetic expressions for identifying two, three, three and four, four and five, and the like. The remaining number of the sheet bundle can be determined by sequentially calculating the number of sheets. When the transmittance x of one sheet is x <0.1, it is determined that the sheet is out of the measurement range, and when 97 ≦ x, it is determined that there is no sheet.
[0025]
(Embodiment 2)
The remaining amount detection device according to the second embodiment has the following features in addition to the configuration of the remaining amount detection device according to the first embodiment. In the remaining amount detecting device according to the first embodiment, the type of the sheet is identified from the transmittance of the sheet at the time of one sheet, but the transmittance of the sheet at the time of one sheet is the same, and the type of the sheet is different. In some cases. For example, there are various types of OHP sheets, and the thickness is different if the transmittance is different. Therefore, in the remaining amount detecting device, it is desirable to change an arithmetic expression to be used according to the type of the sheet actually fed.
Thus, for example, as shown in FIG. 6, if the arithmetic expression of the OHP sheet for identifying one and two sheets is y = ax + b, y = cx + d or y = ax + d depending on the type of the OHP sheet. The arithmetic expression can be exchanged for ex + f.
[0026]
(Embodiment 3)
The remaining amount detection device according to the third embodiment has the following features in addition to the configuration of the remaining amount detection device according to the first or second embodiment. The more the above-mentioned arithmetic expressions are stored, the larger the use area of the memory for storing these arithmetic expressions and the higher the cost. If the number of arithmetic expressions is too large, it is difficult to determine which arithmetic expression should be used in the arithmetic unit. Further, there is a case where it is desired to add a minute correction to the arithmetic expression used in the arithmetic unit. The remaining amount detection device according to the third embodiment intends to solve the above-described problem by setting at least a part of the arithmetic expression as a changeable parameter and allowing the parameter to be arbitrarily set. . For example, the values of a and b in the arithmetic expression y = ax + b shown in FIG. 6 are used as parameters, and can be freely set.
[0027]
(Embodiment 4)
The remaining amount detection device according to the fourth embodiment has the following features in addition to the configuration of the remaining amount detection device according to the first, second, or third embodiment. The value of the amount of transmitted light detected by the light receiving means 251 'as the second physical property value detecting means generally includes an error and has a certain variation. However, it is desired that the calculation result of the calculation unit be similar even if the value of the transmitted light amount detected by the
That is, as shown in FIG. 6, for example, it is assumed that the arithmetic expression of the OHP sheet for identifying one sheet and two sheets is y = ax + b, and the value of b of y = ax + b is set to g smaller than b.
