Abstract
Description
Claims (1)
- 【特許請求の範囲】 1.液晶セルおよび少なくとも1枚の補償膜または偏光板と少なくとも1枚の補 償膜を有する光学補償板との組合わせを含み、該補償膜は a)少なくとも1個の重合性官能基を有する少なくとも1種のメソゲンを b)開始剤 c)必要に応じて、2個または3個以上の重合性官能基を有する非メソゲン化 合物、および d)必要に応じて、安定剤、 の存在下において含む、 重合性メソゲン物質の混合物の重合あるいは共重合によって得られる少なくとも 1つのアニソトロピックポリマー層を含む液晶表示デバイスであって、上記アニ ソトロピックポリマー層がホメオトロピックまたは傾斜したホメオトロピック分 子配向を有することを特徴とする、前記液晶表示デバイス。 2.広帯域反射型偏光板を含むことを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の液晶表示デ バイス。 3.補償膜の位相リターデーションが広範囲の視角範囲にわたり広帯域反射型偏 光板の位相リターデーションに対して、符号で反対であり、また大きさで実質的 に同等であることを特徴とする、請求項2に記載の液晶表示デバイス。 4.補償膜が2枚または3枚以上のアニソトロピックポリマー層を含み、これら の層の少なくとも1枚がホメオトロピック配向または傾斜したホメオトロピック 配向を有することを特徴とする、請求項1、2または3に記載の液晶表示デバイ ス。 5.複合補償膜の少なくとも1層が、これらの層の少なくとも1つの別の層の光 学対称軸とは異なる配向の光学対称軸を有することを特徴とする、請求項4に記 載の液晶表示デバイス。 6.ホメオトロピック分子配向または傾斜したホメオトロピック分子配向を含む 少なくとも1つのアニソトロピックポリマー層を含む補償膜であって、 A) a)少なくとも1個の重合性官能基を有する少なくとも1種のメソゲンを b)開始剤、 c)必要に応じて、2個または3個以上の重合性官能基を有する非メソゲン化 合物、および d)必要に応じて、安定剤、 の存在下において含む、 重合性メソゲン物質の混合物を、少なくとも1つの基板上に層形態で塗布し、 B)この混合物を、ホメオトロピック配向または傾斜したホメオトロピック配 向に配向させ、 C)この混合物を熱または活性照射線にさらすことによって重合させ、 D)必要に応じて、工程A)、B)およびC)を少なくとも1回以上反復し、 次いで、 E)必要に応じて、重合した材料から基板の一方または両方を取り除く、 ことによって得られることを特徴とする、前記補償膜。 7.少なくとも1つの基板がプラスティックフィルムであることを特徴とする、 請求項6に記載の補償膜。 8.重合性メソゲン物質の混合物が、1個の重合性官能基を有する少なくとも1 種のメソゲンおよび2個または3個以上の重合性官能基を有する少なくとも1種 のメソゲンを含有することを特徴とする、請求項6または7に記載の補償膜。 9.重合性メソゲン物質の混合物が、1個の重合性官能基を有する少なくとも2 種のメソゲンを含有することを特徴とする、請求項6または7に記載の補償膜。 10.重合した材料が、三次元網状構造体を形成していることを特徴とする、請 求項6〜9のいずれかに記載の補償膜。 11.重合性メソゲンが、下記式Iで表わされる化合物であることを特徴とする 、請求項6〜10のいずれかに記載の補償膜: P−(Sp−X)n−MG−R I 式中、 Pは、重合性基であり、 Spは、炭素原子1〜20個を有するスペーサー基であり、 Xは、−O−、−S−、−CO−、−COO−、−OCO−、−OCOO−ま たは単結合であり、 nは、0または1であり、 MGは、メソゲン基またはメソゲン支持基であり、この基は好ましくは、下記 式IIに従い選択され: −(A1−Z1)m−A2−Z2−A3− II (式中、 A1、A2およびA3は相互に独立して、1,4−フェニレン基であり、この基 中に存在する1個または2個以上のCH基はまた、Nにより置き換えられていて もよく、あるいは1,4−シクロヘキシレン基であり、この基中に存在する1個 のCH2基または隣接していない2個のCH2基はまた、Oおよび(または)Sに より置き換えられていてもよく、あるいは1,4−シクロヘキセニレン基または ナフタレン−2,6−ジイル基であり、これらの基は全部が未置換であるか、あ るいは1個または2個以上のハロゲン、シアノまたはニトロ基により、あるいは 炭素原子1〜7個を有するアルキル基、アルコキシ基またはアルカノイル基によ り置換されていてもよく、これらの基中の1個または2個以上のH原子はFまた はClにより置換されていてもよく、 ZlおよびZ2はそれぞれ独立して、−COO−、−OCO−、−CH2CH2− 、−OCH2−、−CH2O−、−CH=CH−、−C≡C−、−CH=CH−C OO−、−OCO−CH=CH−または単結合であり、そして mは、0、1または2である)、そして Rは、25個までの炭素原子を有するアルキル基であり、この基は未置換であ るか、あるいは1個または2個以上のハロゲンまたはCNにより置換されており 、この基中に存在する1個のCH2基または隣接していない2個以上のCH2基は またそれぞれ相互に独立して、酸素原子が相互に直接結合しない様相で、−O− 、−S−、−NH−、−N(CH3)−、−CO−、−COO−、−OCO−、 −OCO−O−、−S−CO−、−CO−S−または−C≡C−により置き換え られていてもよく、あるいはRはまた、ハロゲンまたはシアノであるか、あるい は独立して、P−(Sp−X)n−について示されている意味の一つを有する。 12.重合性メソゲン物質の混合物が本質的に下記成分からなることを特徴とす る請求項6〜11のいずれかに記載の補償膜: a1)1個の重合性官能基を有する少なくとも1種の式IおよびIIに従うメ ソゲンを15〜85重量%、 a2)2個または3個以上の重合性官能基を有する少なくとも1種の式Iおよ びIIによるメソゲンを10〜80重量%、 b)開始剤を0.01〜5重量%、 c)2個または3個以上の重合性官能基を有する非メソゲン化合物を0〜20 重量%、および d)安定剤を0〜1000ppm。 13.重合性メソゲン物質の混合物が、本質的に下記成分からなることを特徴と する請求項6〜11のいずれかに記載の補償膜: a1)1個の重合性官能基を有する少なくとも2種の式IおよびIIに従うメ ソゲンを75〜99重量%、 b)開始剤を0.01〜5重量%、 c)2個または3個以上の重合性官能基を有する非メソゲン化合物を0〜20 重量%、および d)安定剤を0〜1000ppm。 14.請求項6〜13のいずれかに記載の重合性メソゲン物質の混合物。 15.広帯域反射型偏光板により透過される光の位相リターデーションの視角角 度依存性を補償するための、請求項6〜13のいずれかに記載の補償膜の使用。
