Conventionally, an arc discharge method and a high temperature laser evaporation method are known as methods for producing the single-walled carbon nanotube. However, these conventional methods have the following problems to be improved.

The high temperature laser vaporization method is superior to the arc discharge method in terms of product selectivity and homogeneity. However, in this method, a carbon target material containing a small amount of metal is placed in a quartz tube installed in an electric furnace heated to a high temperature of about 1200 ° C., and a pulse width of several nanoseconds and a pulse frequency are set in an inert gas atmosphere. Nd: YAG pulsed laser light of about 10 Hertz is irradiated to recover the single-walled carbon nanotubes as a part of the soot-like substance generated in the gas. As described above, in the conventional method, since heating at an extremely high temperature of about 1200 ° C. is indispensable, the manufacturing apparatus has a complicated and special structure and material, and the generated single-walled carbon nanotube has a high temperature. There was a problem that thermal metamorphism was unavoidable due to exposure. Further, since the laser light irradiation is pulse irradiation, there is a problem that there is a limitation in improving the production efficiency of the single-walled carbon nanotube.

First, in the present invention, as the carbon target material for irradiating laser light, as in the conventional method
Small amounts of metals as catalysts such as Fe, Co, Ni,
A substance such as graphite mixed with Pt, Pd, Rh, ... This carbon target material will be placed in a container. At this time, it is not necessary to employ any special means for heating to a high temperature of 1200 ° C. as in the conventional case. This is because heating the carbon target material and the atmosphere gas is not necessary in the method of the present invention.

Can be irradiated more. As described above, in the method for producing a single-walled carbon nanotube according to the present invention, it is not necessary to heat the target or the atmospheric gas, so that the production apparatus can be simplified and it is economically excellent. Further, since the formed single-walled carbon nanotube is not exposed to high temperature, thermal denaturation can be prevented. Therefore, homogeneous single-walled carbon nanotubes are obtained. Furthermore, since the CO 2 laser can continuously oscillate at a high output, the yield of single-walled carbon nanotubes can be significantly improved as compared with the conventional pulse method.
