Claims (8)
1. Apparatus for forging having a first die and a second, die said dies being aligned for a forging operation and bein mounted for relative movement with respect to one another means for moving one of said dies, closure means extending around the mating surfaces of said dies and the adjacent portions thereof, said closure means having means for providing accessibility to said dies, and heating means for heating said dies during the forging operation, characterized in that said heating means has two portions, one portion of said heating means being slidably mounted around said first die and the other portion of said heating means being slidably mounted around said second die, and that said moving means have means for repositioning the heating means at a "predetermined location as the forging operation progresses.
2. Apparatus according to Claim 1, characterized in that the two parts of said heating means are movable towards each ther so that their adjacent ends abut at approximately the center of the opposing die faces held apart by a billet therein.
3. Apparatus according to Claim 1, characterized in that means are provided to maintain the mating ends of the heating means at approximately the center of the space between the die faces as they move together during a forging operation.

Apparatus according to any one of Claims 1 to 3, characterized in that a first closure member is fixed to and extends outwardly from one side of said closure means that a second closure member is fixed to and extends outwardly from the opposite side of said closure means that a first door is located between said closure means: and said first closure member and a second door is located between said second , closure member and said closure means; that said first closure member has a third door which opens to the exterior of said first closure member and said second closure member has a fourth door which opens to the exterior of the said second closure member, that a track extends through said first closure member, said closure means, and said second closure member, that a first carrier is movable along said track for moving an object to be forged from said first closure member to said closure means, and that a second carrier is movable along said track for moving a forged object from said closure means to said second closure member.
5. Apparatus according to Claim 4, characterized in that said first closure member has heating means for heating an object to be forged.
6. Apparatus according to Claim 4 or 5, characterized in that means 'are provided to place said first and said second, closure members and said closure means under an inert gas pressure; and that means are provided for purging said closure means , said first closure member and said second closure member.
7. Apparatus according to any one of Claims 4 to 6, characterized in that said first, said second, said third and said fourth door are all located in line with the center of said lower die.
8. Apparatus according to any one of Claims 4 to 7, characterized in that said first and said second carrier has a groove therein for permitting the passage of a knock-out pin, said groove permitting the first and second carrier to be withdrawn from said closure means.
