Abstract

1345844 Separating particles from exhaust gas DISCOJET CORP 26 April 1972 [18 June 1971] 19361/72 Headings BIT and B2P [Also in Division F1] A flow passage for exhaust gas from an opening 16 in the cylindrical wall 13 of a silencer casing, with end walls 18 and 26, is defined by a spiral wall 33 extending from adjacent the opening for substantially threequarters of a turn and between the end walls and a deflector wall 43 comprising a planar portion 44, extending from adjacent the opening, and a curved portion 46. A tube 24 arranged coaxially of the wall 13 has one end engaging an aperture 21 in the wall 18 and the other end passing through a larger aperture 28 in the wall 26 to define an outlet 31. A wall 36 supports the wall 33 and a wall 48, extending from a location radially inward from the wall 33 to the junction between the wall portions 44 and 46, defines with the wall 33 an inlet 51 to a collecting chamber 57 for carbon particles in the exhaust gases. A removable plug 58 provides for particle removal. The wall 33 is formed of wire mesh or perforated metal and sound-absorbing material 42, e.g. glass fibre or asbestos, is located between the walls 13 and 33. The gases discharged through the outlet 31 are discharged radially outwardly by a plate 62 formed with ribs 63 extending tangentially to the tube 24 and defining flow passages with the wall 26.
