664,467. Exhaust-silencers. WALKER, G. B. June 30, 1950 [Sept. 5, 1949], No. 22955/49. Class 7(ii) An annular chamber 5, through which exhaust gases flow from end to end, progressively increases in cross-sectional area for substantially the whole length of a central core member 4 disposed in a casing 1, and vanes 7 impart a helical motion to the gases. The casing may increase in diameter from the inlet end 2 to the outlet end 3, and member 4 may be cylindrical, have a conical nose 6 to divide the gases into an annular stream and be supported in a spider 10 which has an opening 17 registering with slots in flanges 11. 12 of the casing, and an end member 13 to allow drainage of condensed water.
